Wasfia Nazreen

About The Teacher

Activist, writer, and social worker, Wasfia Nazreen’s personal pursuit into mountaineering has become a message of celebration and hope for women in her native country and beyond. She is the first Bangladeshi and only Bengali to climb the Seven Summits, and used this self-funded journey to draw attention to the status of women and girls in Bangladesh. Her work with Tibetan refugees took her to Dharamsala in her early twenties, where she healed herself from childhood trauma using indigenous wisdom and taking refuge in nature. She took up mountaineering while living and working with Tibetans and Sherpa people in the greater Himalayan region. Wasfia is grateful for having the rare luck to train under the guidance of her teachers HH the 14th Dalai Lama, HH the 17th Karmapa, Dzongsar Khyentse Rinpoche & Mingyur Rinpoche. A certified yoga instructor, she is co-founder of RESET and founder of Ösel Foundation, which aspires to empower girls in Bangladesh and Nepal through outdoors education and mindfulness training programs. She has won numerous national and global awards for her activism and commitment to empowering women, including being the only woman to hold both National Geographic Adventurer and Explorer titles.

Why Retreat?

We asked people why they go on retreat, here's what they said:

To be more present and engaged in the world, to be of benefit to others. Vincent
