Sheila Turnage

About us

Newbery Honor winner Sheila Turnage writes mysteries for kids. She’s also a poet and a journalist. “I’ve written lots of things,” she says. “So far, The Mo and Dale Mysteries are absolutely the most fun of anything I’ve written.” The mysteries feature the Desperado Detectives: eleven-year-old Miss Moses LoBeau and her best friend Dale Earnhardt Johnson, III. They’re set in Tupelo Landing, a tiny fictitious town in Eastern North Carolina, where Sheila lives. Three Times Lucky and The Ghosts of Tupelo Landing–both New York Times bestsellers–kicked off the series. Three Times Lucky also won a Newbery Honor. The third mystery in the series is The Odds of Getting Even. In addition, Sheila’s the author of Haunted Inns of the Southeast (John F. Blair, Publisher), Compass American Guide: North Carolina (Fodors/Random House), and Trout the Magnificent (HBJ).
