Laurence Pringle

About The Teacher

Winner of several prestigious national awards, Laurence Pringle is one of the most popular and honored authors of nonfiction books for children. In 2006 he was awarded a Guggenheim Foundation fellowship for science writing. This led to Billions of Years, Amazing Changes: The Story of Evolution, published in 2011. Larry’s titles include history (two Lewis and Clark books, and ICE!, about a once-vital business), the environment (solid wastes, global warming) and a few fiction books (Octopus Hug, Naming the Cat),but his passion about nature continues to lure him to a variety of books about animals. These include many creatures–bats, sharks, octopuses, crows, owls, frogs, etc.–in the “strange and wonderful” series.

He especially enjoys writing narrative nonfiction, and this led to publication of award-winning An Extraordinary Life: The Story of a Monarch Butterfly. Recently his nonfiction stories aim at younger readers, beginning with The Secret Life of the Woolly Bear Caterpillar. Next: his116th published book–The Secret Life of the Red Fox–published in 2017, with several other titles to follow. We asked people why they go on retreat, here's what they said:

Retreats inspire me to continue to practice and fuel my journey. I always find specified intention and feel it projects me closer to my purpose. Shannon
