Erwin Karl

About The Teacher

Erwin Karl has hiked the Catskills and Hudson Valley since childhood and has long searched for plant-based food and medicines in the woods. That interest developed into a passion for wildcrafting and cultivating fungi in the last decade. “Although my interest in mycology is a recent development, it has been more than just a hobby, perhaps closer to an obsession,” he says. In addition to serving as walks chair for Mid Hudson Mycological Association, he co-hosts the Farm Hour on WIOX (91.3 FM)  and serves as trustee and volunteer for Michael Kudish Natural History Preserve, Catskill Mountain Club, Andes Sprouts Society, and Open Eye Theater.

Why Retreat?

We asked people why they go on retreat, here's what they said:

Retreats inspire me to continue to practice and fuel my journey. I always find specified intention and feel it projects me closer to my purpose. Shannon

Retreat Guru's Vision

We believe human beings are innately wise, strong and kind. This wisdom, although not always experienced, is always present. Going on retreat is a beautiful way to reconnect to our basic sanity and health. Our aspiration at Retreat Guru is to inspire people to experience authentic retreats and reconnect with their innate wisdom, strength and kindness.
