About The Teacher

Ruth Ostrenga, ordained as Lay Minister Apara Nissaya Yasa, has been a student of Nancy Spence since 2000. Nissaya volunteers her time and talents with Center for End of Life Transitions, facilitating workshops and retreats as well as guiding individuals and families during the moments leading to death and beyond. Nissaya will be assisting Savana Amata with this retreat.

Savana Amata and Nissaya have both participated in Anyen Rinpoche’s Dying with Confidence program. Both are known as Doulas for the Dying and as Death Care Midwives.

Why Retreat?

We asked people why they go on retreat, here's what they said:

I teach yoga part time and am a mom of two toddlers full time. I love my life, but goodness do I need a break. My husband and I have been putting off our wedding ceremony for 4 years because life has gotten in the way. We haven't had a single night alone since our family has grown.
