Melissa Bannerot

About The Teacher

Melissa has an undergraduate degree in Psychology and a Masters of Social Work from the University of Houston and specializes in helping clients process trauma. She sees both adults and teens in her Colorado Springs counseling practice. She utilizes Brené Brown’s concepts of vulnerability, courage, compassion and connection daily in her private practice, helping others strive for wholehearted living. Melissa believes that therapy is about owning our stories rather than letting them own us. She uses Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) and Neuro Emotional Technique (NET) to assist her clients to relinquish their internalized shame messages and create healthy empowering beliefs about themselves. NET is a therapy used to discover the unconscious beliefs we have carried due to past experiences and stress responses. Although EMDR was originally used for processing severe trauma, it has become a useful therapy to process any kind of memory that has created triggers in the present day.
