Laurie J. Edwards
A former teacher and librarian, Laurie J. Edwards credits the Highlights Foundation workshops for starting her on her writing journey. Her first professional sales were two nonfiction articles for Highlights magazine. She is now the author of more than 2300 magazine and educational articles as well as 39 books in print or forthcoming under several pen names. The founder and former owner of Leap Books, a small YA publishing house, she also works as a freelance editor and/or copy editor for several educational publishers.
After receiving an MA from Vermont College, Edwards began the MFA program in Children’s Writing and Illustrating at Hollins University, and her first illustrated picture book app, The Teeny Tiny Woman, was picked up by RIF (Reading is Fundamental) for their Billion eBook Gift program, and 250 million copies were distributed to families around the world.
Laurie speaks at writing conferences and events around the country, teaches writing classes for Perry County Council of the Arts, and serves a mentor for SCBWI.
