About The Teacher

Dr. Hafiz’s has more than 35 years’ experience in the field of education. Her research interests focus on emotions in social spaces where issues of race, gender, class, ethnicity and nationality intersect. Fatima currently serves as an adjunct professor at Brooklyn College and Columbia University in teacher education and social work. Her pedagogical approach and education content knowledge has impacted hundreds of graduate and undergraduate students for the past 16 years.

Fatima has been on a journey of self-healing, meditation and spiritual development for more than 35 years. Her practices include meditation from different spiritual paths. As an educator and activist working in teacher preparation for urban schools her insights and experiences are valued by leaders. She has extensive experience in facilitating difficult dialogues. Her mastery of multiple models for engaging cross conversations about difference, leaves people feeling supported in their ability to respond to situations. Fatima has extraordinary skill with facilitating listening and conversations that foster transformation in challenging social interactions. She is committed to leaving people in love with who they are and the work they do.

Dr. Hafiz is CEO, Founder and Senior Facilitator for the T.E.A. Group (Transformative Education Associates, LLP), an education consulting partnership working with human service providers, organizations, schools and community groups to foster shifting consciousness about how we live, learn and work together. The T.E.A. Group is committed to cultivating human potential to transform the human condition.

Dr. Hafiz’s organization recently completed a 3-year dialogue project in Chester, PA, facilitating conversations and cultural change work addressing violence and trauma. This project was funded by The Crozer Chester Medical Center as a public health initiative. The project’s focus for year 3 began a professional development and school community engagement initiative to address trauma and community violence through a restorative justice lens. This phase of the project is in its 3rd year with the T.E.A. Group designing and delivering conversations and education on community trauma and restorative practice development for school staff, students and parents. T.E.A. is currently delivering an 18 month restorative practices pilot intervention and evaluation project with two charter middle schools.
