About, Career, & Passions:

Susan Wnuk is a clinical psychologist living and working in Toronto, Ontario, who works with people wanting to improve their mental and physical health through tested psychological approaches. She has an accepting, collaborative and encouraging style that involves teaching skills and practices to support clients in uncovering their own wisdom in responding to life’s challenges. She believes that each person has a unique story and perspective that must be understood for real change to occur, and that learning and transformation can happen at any stage in life. Susan has a particular interest in eating disorders and body image and believes it is possible for individuals to make peace with their bodies and with food. She received her Mindfulness-Based Eating Awareness Training Program facilitator training in 2011 from the creator of the program, Dr. Jean Kristeller.

Susan is a staff psychologist at the University Health Network (UHN) Bariatric Surgery Program, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of Toronto, and maintains a small private practice in Toronto. She has been presenting at local, national and international conferences for the past 15 years and is actively involved in writing and publishing in the fields of psychology and healthcare. Her primary research focus is Mindfulness-Based Eating Awareness Training and she is currently involved in research on other psychological treatments for weight management.

Susan co-teaches an annual course for healthcare professionals on mindful eating as part of the Applied Mindfulness Meditation Certificate Program at the University of Toronto's School of Continuing Studies. She previously worked in hospital-based eating disorder and borderline personality disorder programs where she was involved in patient care and research. Susan has training and experience with other mindfulness-based psychotherapies including Dialectical Behaviour Therapy, as well as with Emotion-focused therapy and Cognitive Behaviour Therapy. She earned her Masters degree at the University of British Columbia, and her PhD in Clinical Psychology at York University, Ontario.

She has studied and practiced yoga and Buddhist meditation and for more than 20 years within the Tibetan, Zen and Vipassana traditions. Originally from BC, Susan enjoys balancing her love of the outdoors through running and hiking, with city events like documentary films, art and travel.
