About The Teacher
John is a highly sought after teacher and trainer in the personal and practical use of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and mindfulness practices to alleviate human suffering, awaken the heart and spirit, and to cultivate living well. He is also a clinical psychologist, professor of psychology, and director of the Anxiety Disorders Research Program at the University at Albany.
As an active researcher and practitioner of ACT and mindfulness practices, John is the author of several popular books, including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy for Anxiety Disorders, The Mindfulness & Acceptance Workbook for Anxiety, 2nd edition, ACT on Life, Not On Anger, and Your Life on Purpose.
Across the United States and abroad, John offers talks, keynotes to various groups and organizations, and leads workshops and experiential retreats for the public and mental health professionals. This work explores the use of ACT and mindfulness practices to empower and awaken the human spirit, promote human thriving, psychological health and wellness, and meaningful life changes. He also co-leads workshops with his wife Jamie in the United States and abroad. John and Jamie are members of the teaching faculty at The Omega Institute for Holistic Studies, The Esalen Institute, and 1440 Multiversity, where they offer week long retreat-style ACT workshops.
Using Skype, John offers regular clinical supervision and consultation for mental health professionals who are using ACT in their clinical practice and personal lives. He also provides ACT-based life coaching, personal consultation, and individual therapy for the general public using Skype.
