Hatha | Poetry | Crystal Healing | Music
Abby is nomadic, living somewhere between her yoga mat and her journal. Some years ago she packed up her life in London, leaving behind a career in Human Rights, to follow a dream of exploring the world, teaching yoga and writing poetry. She has journeyed on foot, on horseback and by hair-raising public transport, through thousands of square kilometres of African wilderness, Indian mysteries, the Himalayas, the High Andes, and the jungles of Latin America. Expanding her knowledge of yogic practice and philosophy, meditation techniques, the Siddha lineage, kundalini activation, crystal and energy healing, native shamanic practices, permaculture design, wildlife conservation and sustainable living techniques has changed her perspective on life dramatically.
She teaches a self-adapted version of Hatha Yoga, inspired by Hridaya, Sivananda, Iyengar and Agama traditions. With a balance between movement and stillness she guides her students through a sequence activating each chakra in turn. This allows for deeper exploration of these subtle energy wheels and encourages purification and healing to occur on many levels. With a focus on bringing kundalini energy to rest in the heart each practice finishes at Anahata (the heart) chakra. Holding postures for extended periods of time, allows the body to become more subtle and flexible without risking injury. The states of stillness cultivated during these periods resting in posture, deepen our states of consciousness and allow for each seat to become a meditation position.
Abby recognises that just as we can tune in, to feel the vibrations of our chakra system with asana practice, or feel the beat of a drum travel from base to sky, so too can we feel energy in words. She started writing poetry as a child, and has used it as a method of self-therapy since. It is her way of communicating with her inner-voice, and a powerful technique used to untangle the challenges that life brings. She passionately believes that since purifying herself, on physical, mental and spiritual levels, her poetry has deepened in meaning and is generating more profound results for both herself and her audience.
Today, she combines poetry, asana yoga and meditation to bring about deep purification, healing and transformation. She doesn’t view yoga as a form of exercise but more as a way of life, recognising that being a yogi off the mat is as important as on the mat.
Abby teaches Hatha yoga all over the world as she continues to travel. She runs poetry workshops and retreats focusing on releasing blockages to allow our true voices to blossom.Source: akasharetreat.secure.retreat.guru
