About The Teacher

Sundari works as the General Manager at Anuttara Ashram.  Sundari was born and raised in Perth, on the sunny west coast of Australia. Sundari loves cooking and creating yummy vegan food, getting dirty in the garden or on the building site, hiking in the forest, camping, cuddling up with Sita (Anuttara’s Dog) and drinking chai.  Sundari is an incredibly strong practitioner of yoga and meditation, with a deeply inspiring desire for unity with the divine.  Sundari (also referred to as Sunny), is always welcoming to all those who come to the ashram, she is a great listener and has an abundance of light which she openly shares with all those who come into her presence.  Sundari is one of Anuttara’s hardest workers with a multitude of talents, she never ceases to amaze.

Sundari’s spiritual journey began at a young age, growing up she felt a deep sense of lack which stemmed from an underlying unhappiness and confusion around who and what she was. This confusion led to some pretty dark times which she can now look back on as a blessing, for it was the suffering which pushed her to do something dramatic in order to find something more, to find joy and some purpose in her life.

At the age of 20, Sundari left her university degree behind, along with friends, family and home country.  Suddenly, she found herself with a 2-year working visa in hand and a one-way flight to Canada.

Thanks to the wonder of the internet, she was able to connect with many people, working and living in a number of yoga and off-grid communities across the country.  Her limited worldview began to shift. Sundari began to see the vast potential and wonder that this human life had to offer.  Sundari began a dedicated practice of daily yoga and meditation, and in turn, a spiritual fire, which was inextinguishable was lit within her.

Why Retreat?

We asked people why they go on retreat, here's what they said:

Reconnecting with myself after a very crazy few months with a new baby! Just having that feeling of being grounded again. But also having an opportunity to connect with new amazing people. Getting exposed and Inspired by new (to me) yoga instructors (and community). Being in the presence of real, authentic and raw emotion (the whole spectrum).. So many reasons! Alyson
