Acharya Dr. Maureen Hall

About The Teacher

Acharya Dr. Maureen Hall is a Chiropractic Physician, Acupuncturist and Energy Healer specializing in mindfulness-based interventions for stress, and workplace wellness. She has been teaching the eight-week Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR) course at Missouri University of Science and Technology, each semester, since 2010-2017, and St. John's Integrative Medicine in Springfield, MO 2006 and 2008.

Acharya Dr. Maureen has practiced Vipassana meditation for over 15 years and has completed extensive trainings including: Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction in Mind-Body Medicine Professional Training with Jon Kabat-Zinn and Saki Santorelli, the 2 Year Spirit Rock/IMS Community Dharma Leader Program and the 2 year Dharmacharya Program with Venerables Pannavati and Pannadipa.

She is also a singer/songwriter who specializes in songs that speak directly to, and reinforce the principles being taught in her MBSR courses. She has found over the years that we tend to remember and take in, to a deeper level, those things we can sing about or put to music. So songs and chants are an integral part of how she teaches these classes.

Acharya Dr. Hall has also been teaching one-on-one individualized mindful meditation classes since 2000 and has a long history of assisting others in establishing and maintaining a daily practice.

Dr Maureen's first career was as a professional musician, singer and song/writer, with a musical passion that has come to serve the Dharma more and more over the years.

One of Maureen’s earliest memories is laying in her crib making up her first song and singing at the top of her lungs, less than a year old according to her mother. She started playing guitar at age 14 and she hasn’t stopped making music yet. Maureen performed with the band Sugar Tree for 20 years, touring 28 states . They played top 40 dance music on the hotel lounge circuit and were on the road 50 weeks each year from 1975-1980.

She now plays as a solo or with her husband, Richard Hall, in their Americanna Folk duo called Bliss Hippy.  Bliss Hippy tours throughout the US each summer with a special affection and appreciation for their fans on the West Coast and in the North East who host Bliss Hippy in concerts in their homes and Dharma Centers. The couple is currently working on their 5th CD “Walking Each Other Home” to be released in 2020.

Maureen has served as Dharma Troubadour for Venerable Pannavati since 2013. She is currently a member of Dharma Voci, Venerable Pannavati’s interfaith choir.

Always a student of spirituality, her songs reflect her Dharmic understandings and insights.   Inspired by the Dharma she writes songs with the intention to expedite the awakening of all beings and hasten the end of suffering by bringing more love and unity into the world through song.

Why Retreat?

We asked people why they go on retreat, here's what they said:

I am an oncology nurse and a few long time patients have died recently. I need to rejuvenate and return to my breath! Elizabeth
