About The Teacher

Mateo Marquez, aka “Mister Mateo,” is an entrepreneur in Fort Worth, TX. Mateo is the CEO & founder of PoserKids, creating an interactive Edutainment program for children that promotes mental, emotional & physical wellness via a unique form of mindfulness based structured play. He has brought our Mindful Movement program to over 10,000 children across socio-economic, cultural & geographic boundaries, forging partnerships with organizations and institutions throughout the USA and beyond. PoserKids works extensively with families, schools, healthcare facilities, municipalities, non-prot organizations and within the special needs community.

PoserKids is an educational services provider that produces dynamic, fresh, edgy original content for school-age children, including educational videos that teach mindfulness using yoga, meditation, breathing and creative arts as tools in a Seinfeld meets Mister Rogers format. PKYTV’s thematically-bundled PoserKids Vids are currently available for free on YouTube and an amazing resource for educators, clinicians, coaches and parents alike.

PoserKids provides professional development for educators and is currently an approved Continuing Professional Education (CPE) provider in many states including Texas. PoserKids educator trainings correlate into CEU credits for attendees and educators are supported year-round with PoserKids content, special events/workshops and continuing education opportunities.

PoserKids also produces original children’s books & music. Our PoserKids Books are available on Amazon and another great way to integrate Mindful Movement into your home and classroom, and PoserKids Music is available for download on iTunes. We even co-manufacture our own proprietary child-sized yoga mats called PoserPads, further ensuring that truly any child, anytime, anywhere can participate in the PoserKids program.

Initially, Mateo taught yoga to adults and experimented with the Poser brand in the adult market, striving to make yoga accessible and enjoyable for the masses, and not just for adults, with still 95% of Americans not considering themselves “yoga people” despite the industry’s massive growth domestically. Mateo would put on his own self-nanced yoga events, complete with live musicians, art exhibits, food trucks or even Segway rides, throughout Fort Worth and beyond, taking his Poser project on the road throughout the southwest in Texas, California, Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico and Louisiana.

Mateo has had the opportunity to teach & train with many leaders and innovators in the elds of yoga, tness, mindfulness, arts & entertainment and even corporate America. His sister, Kelsey De La Torre, a certied yoga instructor & lululemon alumnus, got him into yoga in 2009 and is one of his greatest yoga inuences of all. His mother, Jill Schaefer, a 45 year Early Childhood Diagnostician, has also had profound impact on planting the seeds of the PoserKids program.

Mateo has received formal yoga teacher training from the likes of his mentor Bryan Kest, as well as Tias Little, Lynda Meeder and Baron Baptiste while being a daily practitioner of Sumit Banerjee’s sequence. Our PoserKids yoga philosophy & sequence are a representation of best practices from many yoga and even non-yoga tness practices.

Mateo is also an accomplished writer & speaker. His rst book, The Phoenix of Hotel Freds, was published in October of 2010. After the book’s release, Mateo embarked on a self– nanced tour in a truck lled with 5,000 paperback copies. He traveled through 10 states for 2 months, giving every single copy of the book away for free by hand. The Serenity Tree, will be released in the Fall of 2018. Mateo’s unique autobiographical narratives navigate through the new modern family dynamics of the digital era with levity, transparency and acceptance.

Mateo grew up in Albuquerque, NM and lives in Fort Worth, TX with his daughter, Gracyn. In addition to working with children & writing, he has spent most of his career in corporate business development, helping start-up companies in the Internet, healthcare, telecommunications and sports arenas recruit & train top-performing sales organizations as one of the World’s top professional headhunters.
