About this Retreat
Sowa Soma was founded by Neil and Fiona, a husband and wife team who have been working with medicinal plants for over a decade, in Europe and Costa Rica. In 2021, they relocated to Costa Rica's Caribbean coast to deepen their connection with Ayahuasca and to offer ceremonial work in its verdant jungle.
During Neil's time in the medicine world, he has sat in many circles both indigenous and non indigenous to the Amazon. He has come to know and learn from lineages within the Shipibo-Konibo and Huni Kuin tribes. As part of his continuation to learn with plants, Neil has carried out a number of master plant dietas including Noya Rao, Mugwort, White Sage, Chuchuwasi, Rose, Dandelion, Bobinsana, Passionflower, Cacao and Cannabis.
Neil follows the path of Noya Rao and is currently dieting Noya Rao under the Mahua Shipibo Konibo lineage. The plant dietas are an anchor for the work they do and support them and their space in many ways.
Neil offers pre and post ceremonial support, integration coaching, 121 and small group ayahuasca ceremonies, retreats, group social dietas and private isolation diets in his home in Costa Rica.

In 2021, they decided to take their family and work and relocate to Costa Rica's Caribbean coast, to further deepen their connection to Ayahuasca and the jungle.
During Fiona's time in the medicine world, she has sat in many circles both indigenous and non indigenous to the Amazon. She has come to know and learn from lineages within the Shipibo-Konibo and Huni Kuin tribes and continues to learn with plants through master plant dietas, these include White Sage, Rose, Cacao, Passionflower and Mugwort.
Fiona is particularly passionate about supporting woman in ceremony, helping to create as much of a safe environment as possible. This work extends to helping women to integrate plants into their daily lives to tune into and fully embrace their menstruation cycles.
In addition to plant medicine facilitation, Fiona offers preparation and integration coaching and menstruation mentoring and supports couples and individuals with conscious conception, birth, postpartum and beyond.
Details of this retreat
From the moment guests arrive, they are transported into a tropical jungle paradise, shoes are kicked off, phones are put into flight mode, and they are greeted with a cold coconut and a warm embrace.
We begin this work together with an orientation of the space, a detailed discussion about the dieta and what to expect, and a conversation around how much interaction is wanted during the diet. This process can also be a little more fluid and organic as the diet progresses.
Our home provides the right tone, comfort, and atmosphere for this introspective work. We have a beautiful dedicated space for ceremonies and meditation. The noises of the jungle provide the daily soundtrack to your stay. The frequency of the land can be felt. It is magical.
You will sit daily with your chosen plant, connecting through meditation or dream time, journaling about your experience, thoughts, insights, and emotions.
You may already have a plant in mind to diet or we can help guide this process to find the right plant to support your needs. These are the plants that we have a very close relationship with, but we can also hold diets for a plant of your choice if it's not on this list.

Directions
Fly to San Jose International airport (SJO), we will arrange transportation from San Jose. there are a number of options to get to Puerto Viejo. Private taxi to our home - the drive is around 5 hours. Shuttle bus - airport of hotel pick up. Alternatively you can get a domestic flight at the domestic terminal next to SJO to Limon, this takes 35 minutes and then a taxi to our home.
