Chanaka Rukshan – Yoga Teacher in Sri Lanka | Founder of Rukshan Yoga Studio
Chanaka Rukshan is a highly experienced yoga teacher and meditation instructor in Sri Lanka, and the founder of Rukshan Yoga Studio. With more than 25 years of experience in yoga, meditation, and holistic healing, he is known for his authentic and unique yoga teaching style, combining traditional yoga wisdom with modern therapeutic techniques.
Chanaka began his yoga journey in 1997 and met his first yoga guru in 1998. He completed his first Yoga Teacher Training Diploma at Sethsada Yoga Vedanta Academy, one of the respected yoga institutions in Sri Lanka. After his training, he worked as an Assistant Yoga Instructor for four years, gaining deep practical experience in traditional yoga practice and teaching.
In 2005, Chanaka entered the international wellness tourism field as a professional yoga instructor for travelers visiting Sri Lanka. He worked for more than five years as Chief Yoga Instructor at the renowned Ayurvedic wellness resort Barberyn Beach Ayurveda Resort, where he guided international guests through yoga, meditation, and therapeutic practices. He also taught yoga at several wellness resorts and hotels including Lotus Villa Ayurveda Hotel.
To deepen his understanding of the human mind and emotional wellbeing, Chanaka completed a Diploma in Psychological Counseling at the Sri Lanka Foundation Institute in 2010. During his spiritual journey, he received initiation into Babaji’s Kriya Yoga from Yogi Badridas and continued his advanced Kriya Yoga training under internationally known masters Marshall Govindan and Satyananda.
Chanaka continued expanding his knowledge internationally. In 2011, he received advanced training in Ashtanga Yoga and Vinyasa Yoga at Samhita Yoga Retreat. In 2012, he completed a Yoga Therapy Teacher Training Course at the Paramanand Institute of Yoga Science and Research Center, where he studied advanced yoga healing techniques based on the chakra system and received initiation into Chid Shakthi Prakriya, a specialized Kundalini practice.
In 2014, Chanaka expanded his healing knowledge through Usui Reiki, receiving his first Reiki degree and later advanced Angel Reiki initiations from master Anisis.
In 2015, he completed his second Yoga Teacher Training Diploma at Yoga Vidya Gurukul (Yoga Point), one of India’s respected yoga training centers. Later, in 2020, he completed Kundalini Yoga Teacher Training through Kundalini Asia Institute, earning recognition as a Level 1 Kundalini Yoga Instructor under the International Yoga Alliance.
During his long teaching career, Chanaka Rukshan has trained thousands of yoga students from around the world, including many who have completed 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training in Sri Lanka under his guidance. His students now share the teachings of yoga internationally, spreading the wisdom of the Rukshan Yoga style.
Chanaka is also known in Sri Lanka as a yoga television presenter, writer of yoga books and magazine articles, and a public lecturer on yoga, meditation, and mindfulness practices.
In 2015, he founded Rukshan Yoga Studio, a peaceful yoga retreat space located near the famous Mirissa Beach on the south coast of Sri Lanka. The studio offers daily yoga classes, meditation programs, yoga teacher training courses, and yoga retreats for international travelers.
His dedication to authentic yoga teaching has been recognized globally. The studio received a Hall of Fame recognition on Tripadvisor for maintaining consistently high ratings from travelers between 2015 and 2018.
Today, Chanaka continues to share the transformative power of yoga, meditation, breathwork, and energy healing, helping people from around the world find balance, inner peace, and wellbeing during their yoga retreat in Sri Lanka.
