About this Retreat
I am a clinical psychologist (KU Leuven, 2001) and systemic psychotherapist (Interactieacademie, Antwerp), with over 20 years of experience working with individuals, groups and organisations in Belgium.
My work is rooted in one core belief: real change doesn't happen through insight alone. It happens through experience — in the body, in relationship, and in contact with what is alive in the present moment.
Over the years I have deepened my practice through training in breathwork (resonance breathing / consciously connected breathing), EMDR, Parts work with voice dialogue, Emotionally Focused Therapy and a postgraduate specialisation in high sensitivity (HSP). The polyvagaal theory of Stephen Porges became a key framework in my work — offering a trauma-sensitive lens through which nervous system regulation, embodiment and connection all come together.
I founded Aandachtsacademie to bring this integrated approach to more people — through individual therapy, group work, trainings and immersive retreats in nature.
What drives me is a deep trust in the self-healing capacity of every human being. My role is not to fix, but to create the conditions in which something can shift — gently, deeply and durably.
Clients and colleagues describe me as warm, grounded and deeply attuned — someone who makes people feel genuinely seen from the very first moment.
"Intelligent, well-read and experienced. At my most vulnerable, I immediately felt safe with Mathieu." — Tanja
"Mathieu has an extraordinary capacity for empathy. He tunes in perfectly to who you are and senses at every moment what you need." — Jorn
"Working alongside Mathieu as a co-therapist was organic and complementary. He holds space with great presence, warmth and skill." — Sarah, psychotherapist

WinterTraject – Immersive Snowshoe Retreat in the French Alps (in Dutch)
We leave behind the have-to's.
Work. Agendas. Notifications. Expectations.
And we make space.
To breathe.
To drop out of the head.
To come home to yourself.
WinterTraject is an immersive eight-day retreat in the French Southern Alps — a journey outward into the winter mountains, and inward into yourself. Together with a small group of six to eight participants, we stay in a mountain chalet in the Queyras, a pristine natural park in the southern French Alps, and spend our days snowshoeing through the white landscape. We walk in silence, in conversation, in reflection.
What to expect
Each day follows a clear rhythm that invites both safety and depth. We snowshoe through the winter landscape — and movement in nature opens what's been held tight. In the evenings, we cook together, share a warm meal, and close the day in a sharing circle.
Throughout the week, we work experientially with:
Breathwork (resonance breathing / consciously connected breathing)
Body-oriented and somatic exercises
Mindfulness and focusing
Systemic constellation work
Sharing circles and integration moments
Who is this for?
This retreat is for you if you feel it's time to step out of the daily rush — and back into yourself. If you're tired of running on autopilot and want to reconnect with what you feel, who you are, and what truly matters to you.
You may recognise yourself here:
You live mostly in your head and feel chronically "switched on"
You function — but inside, something feels empty, tense, or frozen
Relaxing doesn't come easy
You people-please or control more than you'd like
A quiet inner voice whispers that you're never quite enough
Your body is giving you signs of fatigue or tension
Somewhere along the way, you lost touch with your direction or desire
This week doesn't promise quick fixes. It offers a safe container in which something can shift — gently, deeply and durably.
Your guides
You will be guided by two experienced psychologists and body-oriented psychotherapists — Mathieu Devies and Sarah — who together create a warm, clear and professionally held space. A space where boundaries are clear, vulnerability is welcome, and every person's pace is respected.
The small group size makes genuine encounter possible. We learn not only from the guidance, but from each other.
