Healing doesn't happen in a single moment—it unfolds one step at a time.
Our retreat is intentionally structured to create space for preparation, reflection, and integration. Each ceremony is followed by time to rest, reflect, and process your experience before moving forward.
Your journey begins with an Iboga handshake ceremony, allowing us to observe your individual response before your first full Iboga ceremony. Over the next three days, you'll participate in two Iboga ceremonies and conclude with a 5-MeO-DMT ceremony, with dedicated time between each experience to reflect, integrate, and prepare.
From your arrival in Costa Rica to your departure, every step has been carefully planned to provide a safe, supportive, and intentional environment.
At The Iboga Retreat, we don't believe healing can be rushed. We believe meaningful change happens when preparation, experience, and integration work together.
You don't have to carry it alone. We'll walk beside you. The work—and the growth—remain yours.
Combat veteran, former law enforcement officer, investigator, certified iboga facilitator, and founder of The Iboga Retreat. After years of struggling with trauma, PTSD, depression, loss, and failed attempts to heal through therapy, medication, meditation, and other approaches, Matthew experienced a profound shift through iboga and 5-MeO-DMT that forced him to finally face what he had spent most of his life avoiding. He left his previous life behind, trained in Mexico, and moved to Costa Rica to build a small, structured, safety-first environment where others can do that same work with preparation, responsibility, and support.
Details of this retreat
This retreat is for the people who have carried the weight for everyone else.
Veterans. Law enforcement officers. Firefighters. EMTs. Medical professionals. Anyone who has spent years surviving instead of living.
Maybe you've become numb. Maybe anger has become your default. Maybe you've tried therapy, medications, alcohol, or simply burying yourself in work. Maybe you've convinced yourself that this is just who you are now.
It doesn't have to stay that way.
This retreat isn't about escaping your past. It's about finally turning toward it with honesty instead of fear. Not to relive it—but to understand it, learn from it, and leave behind what no longer belongs to you.
What to Expect
Participants fly into Juan Santamaría International Airport (SJO) and spend the first night at a nearby hotel. The following morning, you'll take an Uber to the retreat location.
Upon arrival, we'll begin with a traditional iboga handshake ceremony. This allows us to observe your individual response to the medicine before your first full iboga ceremony later that evening.
The following day is dedicated to rest, reflection, and preparation before the second iboga ceremony that night.
The third day provides additional time for reflection and integration before the closing 5-MeO-DMT ceremony that evening.
Throughout the retreat, participants remain in a fasted state. Water is available at all times, and fresh fruit is provided the morning after each ceremony.
On the final morning, the retreat concludes. Participants may take an Uber back to San José to return home or continue their travels in Costa Rica.
Our Commitment
No one can promise what your experience will be.
No ceremony can erase your past.
No facilitator can do your work for you.
What we can promise is this: you will be treated with dignity, respect, and honesty. We provide a safe, structured environment, prepare you for each ceremony, and remain beside you throughout the process.
You don't have to pretend you're okay here.
You don't have to carry everything by yourself anymore.
If you're ready to face what you've been carrying—and discover who you are beneath it—we'll walk beside you every step of the way.
