About this Retreat

Details of this retreat

Twelve days. Six ayahuasca ceremonies. Four Shipibo Onanyabo - two female, two male - carrying a combined 250 years of living healing wisdom. Three highly experienced Western facilitators. A yoga teacher. 50+ local staff. A maximum of 23 guests.

This is not a retreat from life. It is a deeper encounter with it.

The Temple's 12-day program takes place deep in the Peruvian Amazon - the birthplace of ayahuasca - where the full biological symphony of medicine, healers, and rainforest intelligence cannot be replicated. The icaros, the sacred healing songs sung by the Onanyabo, are the true medicine. Received through decades of apprenticeship. Transmitted through ceremony. Working at the energetic roots of trauma in ways that no clinical or foreign setting can replicate.

Between ceremonies, the healing program is carefully held: six plant baths, three vapor baths, healer consultations, individualized plant remedies, sharing circles, daily yin yoga, and an integration workshop. Every element has been refined over nearly two decades to support the deepest possible healing - before, during, and after your time at the Temple.

You will leave with our integration guidebook - Living an Aligned Life - and access to our 3-month integration program, including 9 live integration classes and 21 hours of recorded teachings, and a lifetime membership in a worldwide community of Temple guests and facilitators.

Widely regarded as the world's most trusted ayahuasca healing center. All proceeds flow back to the people and the Amazon.

No guaranteed miracles. No panaceas. No fake or incentivized reviews. Genuine healing.

Directions

**Please do not book flights or make any travel arrangements until your registration and medical information has been reviewed and you have been approved to attend a retreat.**

In order to come to the Temple you would need to fly into Iquitos International Airport. We recommend booking your flights for one day before and after the start and end date of your retreat to first allow yourself time to acclimatize to the environment and then allow yourself ample travel time and time to reintegrate into the “mainstream” world once the workshop has ended.

Each retreat group will be picked up on the first morning of the retreat at a designated pickup location in central Iquitos by one of our staff members and then travel to the Temple together from there. The group will be brought back into Iquitos after breakfast on the last morning of the retreat and will arrive in town by early afternoon (usually 2pm at the latest).

The price of a Temple retreat includes transportation from the group pickup place in Iquitos to the Temple on the first morning of the retreat and transportation back to Iquitos on the last morning of the retreat. The price does not include any flights, hotel costs, or transportation to the group pickup on the first morning.

Accommodation

Twenty-four private tambos are spread across three hectares of Temple grounds - traditional jungle bungalows hand-crafted from local wood, screened with mosquito netting, and open to the sounds and rhythms of the forest. Each tambo is a private sanctuary. A bed with cotton bedding and a mosquito net. A hammock. A desk. A chair. A sink, shower, and flushing toilet. Simple, rustic, and genuinely comfortable - everything you need and nothing you don't. At night, the tambos are lit by candles and gas lamps. No electricity. No wifi. Just the forest, alive around you in the dark - crickets, frogs, nightbirds. A rare and genuine opportunity to unplug, to slow down, and to remember what it feels like to be part of the natural world. Double occupancy is available on request.

The Temple sits on over 200 hectares of protected rainforest - a paradise deep in the heart of the Amazon, the birthplace of ayahuasca. This is not a resort. It is a living, breathing healing sanctuary, lovingly stewarded for nearly two decades.

Private, comfortable tambos. A maloka cradled by medicinal plants, trees, ayahuasca vines, and native flowers. No electricity. No wifi. Just the living pulse of the jungle.

Don't come looking for a holiday. Do come looking for deep healing.

Life-changing
My recent 12 day retreat in February at the Temple of the Way of Light was life-changing. The facilitators and indigenous Shipibo healers provided a rigorous and comprehensive framework for exploring the potential of plant medicines in healing both our personal and collective traumas. The jungle was a magnificent setting for the ceremonies; the healers offered poignant, heartfelt medicine songs; and the staff were constantly available to respond to our needs. Lodging and food were both excellent. Moreover, the retreat does not end when you leave the Temple. A well-supported online programme helps integrate the experience into your daily life during the weeks that follow your return home. — Stephen Batchelor

The temple is the ‘real deal’
I have 13 years of sobriety and was nervous coming into this retreat doing ayahuaska. I can say, it was one of the best decisions I’ve made in my life. The facility is beautiful, humble, and stays as true to the tradition as possible. The food is amazing. As a man processing childhood trauma, I was pretty nervous going in. The facilitators are amazing. Rueben helped me stay grounded a lot during my experience. Hamme showed be compassion and gentle stability. Sasha was a great leader and was always safe and present. Debbie showed it was okay to ask for help and met me with love when I was struggling. Kirstie was a very good energy and provided great yoga sessions. All the facilitators had their own experience and energy to bring to the table and all I had to do was be open and willing to trust the process. The healers are also very well practiced in the shapibo tradition. As someone who was somewhat skeptical going in, this again - one of the best decisions I’ve ever made. Would definitely recommend.

Life-changing in every way
I had an absolutely profound and life-changing experience at the Temple of the Way of Light. From the moment I arrived, it felt like a place guided by something far greater than ordinary human effort.
At times, it genuinely felt as though the Temple was run by the divine and administered by people, that is how magical and deeply held the experience was. The facilitators, shamans/healers, and staff create an environment that is safe, respectful, and full of wisdom, allowing you to fully surrender to the process knowing you are supported on every level.
What I experienced here goes beyond words. It felt as if my soul’s battery had been completely recharged. I left with a renewed joy for life, clarity, and a deep sense of gratitude and connection, both to myself, to my fellow humans and to something greater.
This is not just a retreat; it is a sacred space for real healing and transformation. I am deeply grateful to everyone who made this journey possible, and I will carry what I received here for the rest of my life.

Working with Ayahuasca for real
In today’s world with the popularization of ayahuasca, there are many places to go and people who serve the medicine. I two was one of those people who had.”taken” ayahuasca prior to my experience at The Temple of the Way of Light, And while that experience was helpful and beautiful in many ways, it in no way can compare to “working with” Ayahuasca and its true tradition and form, with authentic Maestros from a long lineage of Maestros who have spent decades developing their capacities. I also have met other people and even friends who have “taken” Ayahuasca outside of a lineage and environment of integrity and deep care that exist at TOTWOL; and both for myself and those people it seems to have been more of a “peak experience” versus true healing and expansion of consciousness. If you are considering real healing and personal growth, please be aware of places that are mainly focused on serving you ayahuasca and I strongly consider going to TOTWOL to “work with” ayahuasca with integrity, care, safety, and with Maestros who can heal with the Ikaros - which are as essential, if not more than the medicine alone for true healing and expansion of your awareness over your lifetime versus a peak experience. May you be well and filled with loving kindness…
