Born in a small native community village down-river from Atalaya, Arturo started learning the medicine path at a very young age (under 10 yrs old) from his mother and father who are both Maestro Onánya healers of the Shipibo tradition. By age 18, while studying Teaching at university in Lima, Arturo was already holding healing ceremonies for his university professors.
Now in his early 40s, we believe Arturo is one of the most talented young Shipibo Maestros working in Peru today. Arturo holds an advanced technical knowledge of Shipibo healing and medicine plant dietas. He is an excellent teacher of the Shipibo culture, history and cosmovision. In Arturo’s powerful icaros, his beautiful melodies, his vitality, and his calm, self-possessed presence we see a person who carries the legacy of the ancient knowledge of his forebears.
Arturo lives with us at the Center and often visits his family in Atalaya. We are very happy to have his help as a lead resident Maestro, and to have his family in our hearts as our dear friends.
Maestra Lucinda is the eldest daughter of renowned Shipibo maestro Pascual Mahua Ochavano, born in the Shipibo village of Paoyhan or 'Water of the Pearls' located on the banks of the beautiful Ucayali river, north of Pucallpa.
Lucinda has been immersed in the medicine world of her family her entire life - since she was a tiny infant of 4 months old when her father opened her first learning dieta to bring her the advanced knowledge of the "tree of light" of her ancestors.
Now 57 years old, Lucinda is a confident and intelligent maestra, with a sweet and modest nature and a powerful reportoire of master plant dietas and advanced medicine knowledge. Her gentle Icaros belie a quiet power within, and her feminine energy of care and compassion evokes a feeling of being embraced in the calm flow of life. She is a tireless worker and a steadying presence in the intensity of the ceremony. Her Shipiba name Coshainbo means Powerful Woman.
Lucinda has worked with a variety of Ayahuasca centres in Iquitos and Pucallpa. She has 4 adult children and 8 grandchildren, and holds strong family values and ethics as well as a great sense of humour. We are very happy to have her presence, her knowledge, her laughter and her help at Caya Shobo.
Born in the small jungle village of Nuevo Loreto, 3 hours boat journey from Pucallpa in the Imiria National Forest, Maestro Walter opened his first dieta at age 15, and learned the way of the medicine with his father. He is now 63 years old, and lives close to Iquitos with his wife and 5 of his children.
We met Walter 4 years ago and immediately recognized his natural warmth and humility as a person, as well as his impressive capability as a Maestro healer. His beautiful, lower toned voice and variety of melodic Icaros can transport you to an amazing place of peace and reconciliation with your life’s experiences and your healing path. Walter’s Shipibo name Wesha Mano means World of Happiness.
In all the years we have known and worked with Walter, he has proven his loyalty and friendship and his dedication to helping people. We are very proud to present Walter as a resident lead Shipibo Maestro of our Center.

Maestro of Wisdom
I still think about the way he answers questions. There is something very conscious and careful in the way he speaks, he knows how to express things without inviting negative energies.
His icaros are powerful and beautiful, and he is always the last one to stop singing. He gives so much during ceremony — he sings a lot, and it is truly a blast to experience.

Maestra of Mysticism
I feel blessed to have encountered her at the Caya Shobo retreat. She has such a pleasant and gentle presence.
Her work includes icaros, energy work, and a blessing. I felt a strong resonance with her. I was also told that she specialises in mysticism, which feels meaningful to me, especially as she later appeared in my dreams.
During a ceremony, after she completed the blessing, I received a vivid inner vision: a golden hieroglyphic symbol appeared against a white background, passing through her and then through me, as if the blessing had taken form in my mind.

Maestro of Energies
I only had a couple of ceremonies with him, but his presence really stands for itself. There is a distinct feeling about him — something I noticed immediately. My first impression of him was simply: powerful.
His whole performance carries that same quality. His icaros have a distinctive and unique energy, and the way he works in ceremony leaves a strong impression. Even after only a short time in his presence, I could feel that there is real depth and strength in what he does.

7-Day Dieta Cleanse
I just participated online at the 7 Day Dieta Cleanse. I was surprised that it went much deeper than I could have imagined. There was one day when I went through emotional waves of fear, anger, and sadness, which I was simply able to observe. I first perceived the cleansing in my dreams as clear water and later as a feeling of happiness.
What I really appreciated were the precise, step-by-step instructions for the flower and steam bath.
Thanks for holding the space.

Caya Shobo delivers
Caya Shobo is excellent in every way. From the moment I landed in Iquitos they took care of me. They arranged for my ride from the airport to the retreat center. Every meal was provided by their fantastic cook Miriam. The location was monitored by their security guard Pedro. The rooms and common areas were very clean and comfortable. The traditional doctors Alberto Izquierdo and Walter Martinez were very compassionate and skilled. Their pharmacist Wilder was an open book for anyone curious to learn more about Amazonian plants. I was able to assist him in preparing a batch of medicine. It was easy to stay in touch with family back home as they have a mobile hotspot.
I received a lot of support throughout the process and benefited greatly. The owners and facilitators are very helpful.
I would recommend Caya Shobo to anyone interested in experiencing authentic plant medicine rituals in a very safe intentional way.
