The Island:
Fulhadhoo — The Island Where Paradise Still Lives
Imagine a place where the world feels untouched — where powdery white sand beaches stretch endlessly and clear azure waters surround you. Fulhadhoo is not just an island, it’s a dream of paradise that chose to become reality.
Far away from the touristic resort islands, Fulhadhoo is part of the Baa Atoll Biosphere Reserve, protected by UNESCO for its rare marine life and pristine ecosystems, being home of the very few and fragile Rose Garden Corals. For us it is one of the most beautiful islands in the entire Maldives, our hidden gem.
The Beaches
Fulhadhoo’s beaches are the definition of perfection — long, wild, and so empty that you'll feel like you're walking through your own private paradise. The sand is powder-soft and white as snow, contrasting with the endless palette of blues from the lagoon. The shallow, warm waters invite you to simply float away from all worries.
The Lagoon
The shallow lagoon surrounding the island is one of the clearest in the Maldives, stretching out for hundreds of meters. The water is so transparent that you'll spot baby sharks, rays, and colorful fish just by wading in.
Nature’s Playground
Fulhadhoo is surrounded by coral reefs full of life. Go snorkeling, and you'll find sea turtles, and sometimes even manta rays gliding through the underwater world. If you're lucky, you'll even catch the bioluminescent plankton lighting up the beach at night — a natural phenomenon that makes the whole shore glow like a starry sky.
Serenity
Unlike the famous Maldives’ resort islands, Fulhadhoo feels like a secret that only a lucky few know about. With just a few guesthouses on the whole island, you’ll hear nothing but the soft rustle of palm leaves and the gentle rhythm of the ocean, feeling deeply connected to Mother Earth.
Barefoot Luxury
Forget five-star hotels. Fulhadhoo is nature’s five-star escape. Here, the luxury is simplicity: sleeping in a cute guesthouse, waking up to the sound of waves, and enjoying fresh tropical fruits for breakfast, dining, dancing and singing with the locals. Walking barefoot through the island. Living a simple and stressless life.
Sunsets Like Nowhere Else
When the sun sets over Fulhadhoo, the entire sky turns into a painting of deep pinks, fiery oranges, and soft purples. It will become a ritual to just go and watch the sunset quietly, and in awe.
The Heart of the Island — Its People
Fulhadhoo is not just about nature — it’s about authentic island life. The small local population of around 250 inhabitants welcomes visitors with open arms and warm smiles. Life here moves slowly, with traditional Maldivian culture still alive in every corner. You can walk through the tiny village, sip coconut water under palm trees, and join a fishing trip with locals. It’s a chance to reconnect with simple and genuine happiness.
Best Things to Do on Fulhadhoo
Snorkel with turtles and manta rays

Watch dolphins dancing in the sunset
Discover the underwater world of the Baa Atoll
Stargaze on the beach while the bioluminescent plankton lights up the night

And of course Yoga
Fulhadhoo offers a unique blend of local Maldivian culture and tropical island beauty, making it important to respect local traditions while enjoying the island’s paradise.
The island is home to a small Muslim community, and local customs shape daily life. In the village area, modest dress is expected, meaning not to wear only a bikini, see through clothing or anything too sexy when walking through the village or visiting local shops. However, Fulhadhoo has designated huge bikini beaches, where tourists are free to wear swimwear and relax in privacy. These beaches are typically secluded, offering the perfect combination of respect for local culture and the freedom to enjoy the island’s beauty. We always suggest to wear what you would to visit a friend in a café during summer, and maybe bring a light scarf to throw on top with you.
The locals are friendly, welcoming, and proud of their traditions, often inviting visitors to experience Maldivian cuisine or join fishing trips.
How to Get There
You can take a speedboat from Malé (about 2 hours) or fly to Dharavandhoo Airport, followed by a short speedboat ride. Please find the Speedboat schedule underneath. The transportation is included, therefore we are recommending to choose your arrival and departure flight with a minimum of 2 hours time between speedboat schedule.

Watch the locals everyday life
Fishing is a key part of local island life on the Maldives, and many islanders rely on it for their livelihood. Fishing boats can be seen departing from the islands early in the morning, and the catch of the day is often sold at the local fish market. In addition to fishing, some locals also engage in tourism, agriculture, growing crops such as coconuts, bananas, and papayas. Learn how to weave a basket out of palm tree leaves or how to make your own coconut oil (seasonal).
Explore the Island´s beauty
Fulhadhoo, Baa Atoll, is a small island, around 1.5 kilometers long and 200 meters wide, making it perfect for quiet walks through sandy paths and lush palm groves. Despite its size, the island feels expansive thanks to its endless beaches and wide.
The waters surrounding the island are home to manta rays, especially between May and November, when they gather in large numbers at nearby Hanifaru Bay, one of the world’s most famous manta ray hotspots.
Hanifaru Bay, about 40 kilometers from Fulhadhoo, is a globally renowned spot where whale sharks come to feed alongside large groups of manta rays. The bay is a protected marine area, allowing only snorkeling (no diving) to minimize disturbance to these magnificent creatures.
Even closer to Fulhadhoo, it's possible to encounter whale sharks while snorkeling or on boat excursions, making the island a perfect base for those seeking unforgettable marine encounters.
