Details of this retreat

Prayer and work are key to St. Benedict’s way of life. We will begin by prayer, reflection and discussion comparing Benedict’s and our current understanding of planet earth and how we can care for it. After Noon praise and lunch with the Sisters, we will work outside and return inside to wrap up.

This program is for anyone who is interested in our care for the earth and all of God’s creation. Ideally, the person would be reasonably mobile and able to walk and/or work outside. Families welcome, (may include older children with a parent).

What to expect in the retreat? Time for prayer and reflection, noon praise and lunch with the Sisters and time to work outside on trails and/or around the monastery grounds. You may bring your own gloves and tools, if you don't have, don't worry  we have gloves and tools for you. Read More

Accommodation

We have ten retreat bedrooms, most of which are equipped with two twin beds. The rooms may be shared if you are coming with a friend or partner, but generally there is just one person per room. Our building is set back among the trees so the rooms stay fairly cool. There is heat in each room for the colder nights. Each room has a sink, mirror, chair, desk, and small closet area. Towels and linens are provided, but please bring your own toiletries. Bathrooms are shared and showers are available. Retreatants are welcome to join the Sisters for Mass, Praise, and meals. There is wi-fi available in the Priory Library from 8:30am-8:00pm everyday. The Priory Store is also open on Fridays and Saturdays. Plenty of walking trails wind around the Priory's property and are open to retreatants. Spiritual Direction is available upon request at an additional charge.

Contemplative Retreat
I have been to St Placid Priory several times. It is so peaceful and welcoming. I always come away feeling rested and cared for. This last weekend in Lent was just what I needed to refresh my Contemplative and centering prayer practice. I met and engaged with folks from other faith backgrounds and appreciated sharing our stories and experiences. I learned a lot. From walks in nature to delicious meals and comfy cozy accomodations, the retreat center calmed my weary heart. My only wish is that it lasted longer. The sisters are and support staff were so kind. What a wonderful oasis!
Everything about the experience contributed to a deep sense of peace and renewal by the end of my stay. Room was immaculate and comfortable, infused with the spirit of its patron saint Gertrude. Meals with the sisters were delicious and engaging. Each sister I encountered showed an interest in me as an individual. Praying with the sisters was moving and established a calm, centered focus for the day. Read More

One of my happy places
Just returned from an overnight retreat at St Placid. The accommodations were comfy and the food bountiful and good. Best part was being able to be in prayers with the sisters during the liturgy of hours as well as Sunday Mass, lived how welcomed I was made to feel at the Priory. I urge all people Catholic and non to try and spend a weekend there. Such a relaxing and powerful experience! Read More

Restful Reflecting
What a privilege to be folded into the priory for a few day. To close out the noise of my daily life with good rest, prayer, reflection, spiritual direction and a welcoming community. Thank you for opening your center to be a healing haven for me! I hope to return. Read More

Disappointed with the experience
Regarding my experience, unfortunately both my in person interaction and emails felt unwelcome and came across rude. I understand that tone can sometimes be misinterpreted, but the overall approach didn’t feel warm or professional. I was not able to relax or find peace here. Did not enjoy my stay Read More
