About Our Soltara Retreats
At our Center, a seaside haven in the tropical jungle of Costa Rica’s Nicoya Peninsula, we work with traditional Peruvian Shipibo healers and sacred plant medicine, as well as other traditional and modern healing modalities, to help you along this path of self-discovery. Our decades of combined experience holding ceremony and doing medicine work allow you to experience in-depth healing in a safe and loving environment. .

---
Our Commitment to You
We are called to serve medicine in sacred ceremony with integrity, humility, and compassion. By creating a safe space and working only with experienced, well-intentioned healers and facilitators, we uphold the lessons of the medicines and build a foundation of mutual trust, authenticity, and respect. We are not gurus, preachers, or enlightened beings – our healers are maestros who humbly transmit the knowledge and healing energies of the plants, and our facilitators are devoted to helping guests face, process, and explore difficult experiences and emotions, handle projections, manage expectations, and surrender to the process. We strive to uphold the highest integrity in everything we do and be a beacon for responsible, safe, and ethical practices, such that our guests feel safe and supported to get the most out of their healing.

Meals

Menu Types

We believe healing even takes place in the kitchen. We take on the mantra by the Greek physician, Hippocrates: “Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food.” We honor the role of food in our lives and expand it beyond its primary purpose of bodily nourishment – food can be an avenue to dig deeper into ourselves, consciously looking at our patterns and mindsets surrounding not just what we eat, but how and why we eat what we do. Our eating habits don’t just affect our mental health, they also reflect it. At Soltara, we aim to help you jumpstart this process of connection through conscious cooking on all levels. Diet is an important part of the healing process, both on its own and also to help prepare the mind and body for plant medicine work. We work closely with our shamans to prepare wholesome, delicious meals that adhere to the traditional dietary guidelines of working with ayahuasca. All of our meals are freshly prepared in-house by our loving kitchen staff. From fresh smoothies and juices every morning, to plant-based meals emphasizing local, organic, and sustainable produce, to lean proteins such a chicken and fish, we celebrate the rich local flavor of Costa Rican cuisine, and offer a chance to experience a connection to the land and culture while nourishing the body, mind, and spirit.

Absolutely changed my life. No words needed.

I was lost but now I'm found.
I have carried a darkness inside me since I was very young.

For most of my life, I struggled to find peace within myself—to quiet the noise, to feel truly connected to who I was, and to hold onto a genuine happiness that lasted longer than a few days.

I’ve done a lot.
I’ve seen many places.
I’ve experienced things most people only dream about.

I have absolutely lived a life.

But somewhere along the way, I lost touch with a part of myself.

In recent years, that darkness became heavier. It kept building, quietly and relentlessly, until I reached a point where I knew I needed to do something different.

I had tried the traditional paths. I had searched for answers, worked on myself, and kept moving forward—but I still felt like there was something deeper inside me that I hadn't been able to reach.

Eight years ago, I experienced something that showed me another way.

Ayahuasca.

I knew there was something in that experience that I hadn't finished exploring. Somewhere deep inside, I knew there was still a light within me—and I needed to find my way back to it.

For years, I dreamed of coming to Soltara Healing Center.

Then, after a series of events that left me in tremendous pain, an opportunity appeared.

And this time, I didn't hesitate.

I grabbed it with both hands.

What followed has been one of the most profound journeys of my life.

This experience hasn't magically changed who I am.

It has helped me remember who I was beneath everything I had carried.

It has given me tools, perspective, courage and, perhaps most importantly, the willingness to meet myself honestly.

The man who arrived here was searching for something.

The man who leaves is carrying something.

A deeper understanding of himself.
A greater capacity to love.
A renewed sense of purpose.
And a light that he now knows was never truly gone.

And then there are the people.

The love, kindness, vulnerability and acceptance I experienced here was beyond anything I could have expected from a group of strangers.

Somehow, strangers became friends.

Friends became family.

And for that, I will carry an immense gratitude and respect for every person who shared this journey with me.

You have each left a mark on my life, and you will forever hold a place in my heart.

I don't know exactly what the rest of my life will look like.

But I know what I want to leave behind.

I want to leave this world having inspired someone to believe in themselves.

I want to nurture people, protect what is vulnerable, love without holding back, and bring more kindness into a world that desperately needs it.

I want to leave my mark—not through what I own, what I achieve, or what people think of me…

but through the lives I touch.

Not just for me.

For my Wife.
For my daughter.
For my family.
For the people I haven't met yet.
For every living thing that shares this extraordinary planet with us.

I spent so much of my life searching for the light.

Now I understand something.

The light was never gone.

It was always inside me.

I just had to find my way back to it.

I am whole.
I am me.
I am free. ✨

A life-changing experience I will carry with me forever
Soltara has been one of the most meaningful and transformative experiences of my life. I arrived carrying so much emotionally : grief, old wounds, fears, a constant need for external validation, and patterns I didn’t fully understand. I left feeling lighter, more connected to myself, and with a completely different understanding of what it means to feel safe and whole within myself.

The ceremonies helped me reconnect with parts of myself I had lost along the way. I was able to process emotions connected to my father, love, relationships, self-worth, and the way I have been seeking security outside of myself. Some moments were incredibly intense and challenging, but they also brought me a sense of release and peace that is difficult to put into words.

What made the experience even more special was the environment Soltara created. I felt genuinely safe, supported and cared for throughout the entire process. The maestros, facilitators and staff held such a beautiful space for us, and the connection I developed with the other participants became an important part of my journey too. By the end of the week, people who had been strangers only days before felt like family.

I know the real work continues after leaving, and that integration will take time. But I am leaving with more love for myself, a deeper sense of inner security, and the feeling that I can face life differently. I will always be grateful for this experience and for everyone who was part of it. ❤️

Transformation & Global Friends
I experienced the 7 day retreat at Playa Blanca with Soltara. Admittedly, my first ceremony was mild and lovely, my ceremonies 2&3 were incredibly challenging and I questioned doing the 4th at all. With the compassionate encouragement and sharing of personal experiences of the amazing facilitators and went for it. In fact, I increased my dose and had a profound explanation for the difficulties of the earlier ceremonies, difficulties in my life, and visits from deceased loved ones.
I cannot recommend Soltara over other retreats enough. Their facilitators are bar none in their compassion, conscious approach to the human psyche and the inevitable difficulties that arise in trauma work among a group of strangers.
A huge thank you to Nico, Erin, and Ryan for creating a safe and loving container.
