Resident Cabin Retreat

Date
Flexible Dates

Retreat Highlights

  • A one-on-one orientation upon arrival, a daily check-in with an experienced guide, and an exit-interview.
  • Space to unplug: our cabins do not have electricity or plumbing. Cabins are equipped with lanterns, wood stoves, and propane heaters. Bathrooms, laundry, and electricity are in close proximity to cabins.
  • Local, organic, omnivore meals, mindfully prepared by meditators. We adjust for dietary needs upon request.
  • A 310 acre meditation cushion with meditation platforms to enjoy meditating in nature.
  • A cold climate food forest where you can even meditate.
  • To facilitate a deeper retreat, prepare to enjoy mindful silence. This includes eating alone or in silence with other meditators.
  • Going from busy daily life into silence can be jarring. Our participants repeatedly tell us how their mindful activity sessions helped them stay grounded during that transition. This is why we include three hours per day of mindful activity (Karma Yoga) in this package.

About this Retreat

Details of this retreat

Why do a meditation retreat?

Unplug and plug into nature, the outdoors and the nature of your own mind!

Our personal meditation retreats are crafted for folk who already have or are trying to re-establish a steady meditation practice. We offer structural support for newer meditators while also offering flexibility to accommodate your individual practice.Stay from three-nights to three-months or longer.

Come meditate in the B.C. rockies. Our cabin retreat packages help you create a meditation retreat that meets you where you’re at.

We provide books and materials to support your retreat. This package also includes daily check-ins with an experienced guide, three hours of mindful activity (Karma Yoga) and optional group meditations. You may want to meditate as much as possible or you may wish to include reading, journaling and walking with your practice.

This package is a good fit if you:

Have experience with meditation
Have a regular practice or are trying to build a regular practice
Can sit for at least 30 minutes comfortably
Are looking for a supportive structure during your retreat
Welcome a balance of formal sitting meditation and mindful activities (Karma Yoga) such as gardening, harvesting or cleaning

New to meditating?

We love that you’re curious to experience the benefits of meditation. To be of best service to you, all participants agree to be comfortable with meditating for at least 30 minutes regularly.

If you haven't meditated before or are just beginning, you may not be ready for one of our cabin retreats. Although there’s a daily check-in, our retreats are in solitude. We know that this can be unsettling if you haven’t experienced silence and isolation for extended periods of time.

Instead, you can connect with local groups near you or take one of our online courses to help prepare for a personal cabin retreat.

Schedule

“Before enlightenment; chop wood, carry water. After enlightenment; chop wood, carry water.”

– Zen proverb

As busy Westerners, many of us are used to “doing” and simply doing nothing can be challenging.

Karma Yoga is the practice of bridging mindful awareness with your actions.

It is central to our practice at Clear Sky because we believe that bringing mindful awareness into our activities makes us more more clear, compassionate and effective at work, at home and in our relationships. And from there we can change the world!

During your retreat, you will be given simple tasks. Your practice is to bring awareness to the feelings, sensations and thoughts that arise while doing the task. This will help you apply mindful awareness in your daily life after the retreat.

Your mindful Karma Yoga may include

General maintenance on the property (for example, chopping firewood or shoveling snow in the fall and winter)
Gardening, weeding, and harvesting in our garden or food forest (spring & summer)
Cleaning of cabins and common areas
Administrative tasks (for example, filing, or laminating documents)
Note: Schedule is approximate and may change

Experts at Holding Space
I just finished yet another wonderful weekend retreat at Clear Sky. It was a very powerful insight experience for me. What I'm reflecting on now is how skilled the resident teachers and onsite team are at creating and holding space for deep transformation. Although I've definitely also benefited from longer retreats, this weekend reminded me that even 48 or 72 hours can be incredibly impactful when done with care and intention. Can't wait for the next one!

Come to your senses experience
I acknowledged a deeper connection to "just being" in this human body and experiencing my senses without so many thoughts and opinions in my head about it. After the sensing exercises and meditation I noticed a clearer presence and more energy afterward.

Coming to your senses
I joined a 3 hour group meditation sessions called "coming to your senses". There was 4 different meditation all focusing on using a different sense. I came in not knowing what to expect and left feeling extremely calm and peaceful. I'm grateful for the teachers and look forward to incorporating some of these techniques in my own daily practice.

Beyond words!
The setting of this retreat was absolutely perfect for the content. Nestled nicely at the side of a mountain, Clear Sky is and amazingly peaceful place, perfectly suited for spiritual development and relaxation!

The staff was amazingly attendant, while remaining appropriately distant, given the silent nature of this retreat. Meals were always fantastic, and prepared in accordance with my dietary restrictions. The accommodations and peaceful, comfortable, and very well kept.

I would recommend this retreat, or any retreat at Clear Sky for those seeking unfoldment.
