Details of this retreat

We would like to invite you next November 23-24-25, 2024 to our retreat in Haliksai in the company of the Marakame Clemente Uweny Ramirez,
his wife Tuwila Gonzalez and his brother Nabor Ramirez from the community of La Laguna San Andres Cohaniata, in Jalisco, Mexico.

Who are the Wixaritari?
The Wixarika people, also known as Huicholes, are an indigenous community of the Sierra Madre Occidental in the states of Jalisco, Zacatecas, Durango and Nayarit in Mexico. Wixarika spirituality is based on the connection with the four elements -earth, wind, fire, water- and the forces of the different energetic places of Mexico. Out of these elements everything on this planet originates. We are fire, we are earth, we are air and we are water.

The Wixaritari culture is one of the few cultures that has survived colonization and the only one that maintains its annual pilgrimage to their sacred place Wirikuta. In recent years, the Wixaritari of La Laguna San Andrés Cohaniata, in Jalisco, have set out to renew the world, for which they pray on the forgotten sacred places of the world. The reason for this is to protect us from the disasters we have caused by taking nature for granted, polluting our Mother Earth and forgetting our roots. They travel the world and pray for all living beings. We are going to pray with them together and you can be part of it too.

Who is a marakame?
Marakames are the healers and guides of the Wixarika people. However, not everyone who is Wixarika becomes a Marakame. The Marakame hold a commitment to places of power throughout Mexico. The marakame are responsible for rituals and ceremonies.

Wixaritari ceremony
The wixaritari ceremony involves a spiritual introspection, a direct connection with your inner self and a connection with the forces. Throughout the night we will remember ancestral knowledge. The filters of consciousness are released in the name of healing, allowing new connections with life and with ourself.

First we cleanse ourselves of all external energies to concentrate only on our own. Fire is the center of the ritual. The Makarame chants and brings the forces to the fire. Healing and prayers begin throughout the night. With the sunrise and the blessing of the water we close the ceremony with a light breakfast with the fruits offered throughout the night. At the end of the ceremony we receive new energy and start the day with a clean and fresh body. During the day, You will be able to rest at the Haliksai facilities or take a walk to the mud beach with a snack. We will end the day with dinner at Haliksai.
On the 25.11 after breakfast the artist OshiCora will give us a sound therapy and we will prepare for the temazcal ceremony that will take place in the afternoon.
The day we will close with a dinner together.
