This meditation retreat takes place near the beautiful Lake Atitlรกn, Guatemala and focuses on emotional intelligence as an essential foundation in approaching meditation.

The exploration of meditation will focus on three pillars:

โ€ข Entering into a ๐ฅ๐ข๐ฏ๐ข๐ง๐  ๐ซ๐ž๐ฅ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง๐ฌ๐ก๐ข๐ฉ with oneself

โ€ข Discovering a more ๐ฌ๐ฉ๐š๐œ๐ข๐จ๐ฎ๐ฌ ๐ฆ๐ข๐ง๐ โ€“ beyond thoughts

๐Ÿง˜ 6 days of practicing together with discussions, guided self-inquiry & meditation
๐Ÿง˜ day off mid-retreat for hiking, exploring, yoga, being, native sweat lodge (Temazcal)
๐Ÿง˜ A time in the stillness and beauty of the surrounding forest, mystical Lake Atitlรกn and scenic volcanoes

The following questions will serve as a structure for self-inquiry and meditation work during a focused time at the enchanting Kawoq Forest Retreat Center at the foothills of Lake Atitlรกn, San Marcos La Laguna, Guatemala. We will inquire into these questions by directly witnessing the answers in the body, without relying on prior knowledge.

๐™ฟ๐š›๐š’๐š˜๐š› ๐š๐š˜ ๐™ผ๐šŽ๐š๐š’๐š๐šŠ๐š๐š’๐š˜๐š—
โ€ข Perspective: Self-Improvement as a form of self-inflicted violence.
โ€ข Meditation is not about silencing the mind, on the contrary it is about learning how to listen to thoughts and understand them.
โ€ข Spiritual bypassingโ€”a misguided form of spiritualityโ€”may deaden emotional access by falsely striving for a โ€œneutral mind.โ€
-
โ€ข Entering into a living relationship with yourself โ€“ relating not to a mental construct of self, but to the actual, living human being.
โ€ข Giving accumulated knowledge its proper domain โ€“ is knowledge a โ€œmiddle manโ€ in relationships?
โ€ข Cultivating a mind that is free of internal conflict โ€“ no emotion possesses an internal split where a virtuous โ€œbetter halfโ€ attempts to correct its inferior counterpart.
โ€ข Emotional Freedom: an emotion is able to flow without friction, telling its complete story without internal resistance..
-
โ€ข Recognizing oneself as a continuation of humanity.
โ€ข Understanding Self-Esteem / Becoming an independent thinker.
-
โ€ข Meditation โ€“ not a mechanical practice nor a technique.

โ€ข Maturing the relationship to physical sensations.
โ€ข Does the mind look at thoughts the same way that it looks through the physical eyes?
โ€ข Does the mind need to project the thought outward (i.e., create a distance from itself) before it can fully examine the mental content?
โ€ข Is the distance between the image and the observer imagined?
โ€ข Are mental images actually three-dimensional and spatially organized?
โ€ข When an image is visualized, does it have width, height, length or depth? Is the space around it also visualized?

๐š„๐š—๐š๐šŽ๐š›๐šœ๐š๐šŠ๐š—๐š๐š’๐š—๐š ๐š๐š‘๐šŽ ๐™ผ๐šŽ๐š—๐š๐šŠ๐š• ๐™ฒ๐š˜๐š—๐šœ๐š๐š›๐šž๐šŒ๐š ๐š˜๐š ๐š๐š‘๐šŽ "๐™ผ๐šŽ"
โ€ข Observing how the self arises from memories.
โ€ข Witnessing the relationship between the thinker (self) and thoughts, emotions, feelings and sensations.
โ€ข Sensing how the brain manufactures artificial intelligence that is self-aware (the self).
โ€ข Considering the possibility that the nature of even the most intense thoughts and emotion may be more mechanical than living.
โ€ข Learning to deescalate the charge and importance of a thought-emotion-feeling-sensation.
โ€ข If the self is made of thought, is it actually alive?
โ€ข Does thought have a center that says โ€œIโ€? Does this โ€œIโ€ have a human face / voice?

โ€ข Short meditation drills with check-ins, feedback and possible suggestions for course correction
โ€ข Exploration of inner experiences, witnessing wealth of information in the seemingly insignificant observations
โ€ข Partner Work: โ€œAssisted Meditationโ€ in the exploration of muscle tensions

Kawoq Forest is nestled beside Nimalaj Abaj, the Sacred Rock of San Marcos La Laguna. For centuries, this great stone has been a living altar for the Kaqchikel Maya, where ceremonies and offerings connect people to the wisdom of the earth and the cycles of time. It is this presence that makes Kawoq not only a retreat center, but also a sanctuary of renewal and reverence. A place where the ancient and the present meet in harmony.
