About this Retreat
Amritsagar-Thalia, practices yoga in the tradition of Swami Satyananda,
known as Satyananda Yoga, or Bihar Yoga in India. This is a complete
yoga path that encourages a yogic lifestyle and uses a range of
traditional practices to enhance personal development on all levels and
expand awarenes.
A combination of yoga practice and contemplation of our essential nature
is the common concern for both.
Matthias, also called Mathiós, comes from the Hatha Yoga of
Swami Śivananda, the guru of Swami Satyananda. He has also adopted a
Buddhist path early on, which brought him into contact with the Tibetan
wisdom teachings.
A combination of yoga practice and contemplation of our essential nature
is the common concern for both.
Details of this retreat
Most people know Yoga as a physical practice and think of it as a form
of gymnastics. The practice of Yoga has a lot more to offer apart from
maintaining balance for good physical and mental well-being. While
health and contentment are necessary conditions for happiness, they are
not sufficient for complete emancipation. In this retreat Amritsagar and
Mathiós will put Yoga in context and explain how we can embrace life's
full potential.
Four contemplations are powerful in turning away from worldly concerns
and free us from hopes and fears:
(1) By appreciating our freedoms and opportunities we contemplate the
preciousness of a human birth.
(2) From now on we must make good use of this state as long as it lasts.
(3) We understand that depending on sense stimulation cannot provide
true happiness. Contemplating how conditioning keeps us bound up in
vicious circles, we naturally seek liberation.
(4) This needs careful consideration of how our actions shape what we
experience and how experience informs our actions.
In daily yoga sessions (asana and pranayama) and guided meditations we
will explore these four perspectives together.
