About the Teacher
Why study with them?
Rio Hondo is the director of MexicoPsychedelic.com - He believes weaving together the threads of modern science with the traditions of shamanic healing practices in order to create a safe container for you to access the wisdom of your own inner healer.
Rio has been using psychedelics to facilitate growth and healing for over 18 years. In that time, he has stayed up to date with the recent resurgence in psychedelic assisted therapeutic research carried out by preeminent academic institutions such as Johns Hopkins School of Psychiatry, NYU Langone School of Health, and the Imperial College of London Centre for Psychedelic Research. Rio incorporates these methodologies into his psychedelic sessions as they have proven to be very effective means of healing and growth based on scientific studies and pier reviewed academic publications.
Rio has also traveled extensively to visit with, and often live among, indigenous cultures that have used psychedelics for hundreds, if not thousands of years. His journey into the traditional methodologies of indigenous shamanistic practices has taken him many places and led to many experiences that he is able to share with those who choose to work with Mexico Psychedelic. In this time, he has delved most deeply into and developed the closest relationship with Ayahuasca and Psilocybin Mushrooms.
Rio has sat in many ayahuasca ceremonies, has co-facilitated ceremonies in New York, Los Angeles, and Peru, and studied under the guidance of a Shipibo Maestro in the Amazon Jungle. Rio also lived in the state of Oaxaca, Mexico for over a year and in that time developed a very strong relationship with "Los Niños Santos”, the name for Psilocybin Mushrooms given by the Mazatec People. He has developed a close relationship with Mazatec and Zapotec communities where mushrooms have been consumed for healing, visions, and connection to God for hundreds of years and has received blessings from these communities to cary out this work, including a blessing from the family of Maria Sabina (the Mazateca Curandera responsible for introducing psychedelic mushrooms to the Western World) - this is something that he does not take lightly.
In order to foster continued growth beyond psychedelics, Rio believes in the importance of having a consistent personal-development practice in place that leads to an attitude of respect and kindness for oneself and others. Further, he helps his clients develop this in themselves so that they can become their own teacher in order to best teach others and serve their communities at home.
With his deep experience in psychedelics spanning nearly two decades, Rio gives you the opportunity to experience psilocybin mushrooms with a trained facilitator in a secure location, with controlled dosing and supervision, and with appropriate integrative support.
