Lama Michael is a former Buddhist Monk, Teacher and Executive Director of Mindfulness Meditation Centers. Michael has shared that there can never be enough gratitude to repay the debt of kindness that others have shown [him], in particular the XIV Dalai Lama, the XVII Karmapa--Orgyen Trinley Dorje, Gyaltsab Rinpoche, Bokar Rinpoche, Thrangu Rinpoche, HH Dodrupchen Rinpoche and Penor Rinpoche who have offered the empowerment cycles of Rinchen Terzo and Dam Ngak Dzod.
For more than twenty-five years Lama Michael has joyfully instructed a continuous stream of educated and experienced practitioners of all levels and backgrounds in Thailand, India, Hong Kong, Europe and the United States. With a very active online and in person community, he has focused in recent years in offering pithy enlightenment instructions from Dzogchen and Vajrayana Buddhism.
He has led hundreds of meditation retreats on almost every subject matter related to Buddhism, in addition to leading meditative pilgrimages throughout Thailand, Tibet, Bhutan, Nepal, and India. Michael currently directs the practicing and teaching schedule at Dzogchen and BuddhistTeaching and Pemako Retreat Centers and is the Three Year Retreat Master for our current retreat in Southern California.
Lama Michael has previously taught Buddhist Mindfulness practice to large corporations like Chase and JP Morgan, to bring a more integrated mindful approach to handling stress, anxiety and anger in the workplace and cultivating greater awareness. He has also conducted mindfulness programs in correctional facilities in Colorado with largely positive results, with noticeable reductions in depression and anxiety. A focus on Buddha nature helped individuals in correctional facilities to connect to their innate goodness and to find forgiveness within their hearts toward themselves and others.
Working later in a hospice in Denver Colorado, he guided many people through end of life journeys which he often reflects on in his teachings on death and dying.
Lama Michael leads a vibrant local and international online and in person community of practitioners. His students particular appreciate his ability to deliver ancient teachings in a way that directly and quickly changed their lives and awakens within them, their true potential and opens a door to experiencing a conscious and compassionate life and world.
Michael is appreciated for his direct, powerful and often humorous teaching style. He often shared inspiring and empowering stories from his own life. He had led a life that has triumphed over darkness and has been a lighthouse for many students who have themselves faced dark times.
Lama Michaels father was murdered at age 9, and he faced many challenges after his death. His journey led him to being an investment banker and having all the material success in the world to leaving it all behind at the height of his career to become a Buddhist Monk. From Thailand to going to live in India and receive teachings from His Holiness The Dalai Lama and other great Buddhist Masters, his life shines as an example of human potential.
Students feel a relatable connection to his life and direct yet heartfelt style of teaching and sharing the principles of Buddhism in an approachable and modern way with students across America and the world for the last 25 years.
