About the Teacher
Why study with them?
Santiago Roa Duque has spent years working with the indigenous peoples living in the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, a sacred mountain range they call the “Heart of The World”, to help bring back and reforest their precious land. Descendants of the Pre-Colombian civilization called Tayrona, these communities have preserved and protected ancestral knowledge that is key to the balance of the world ecosystem to this day.
Santiago was allowed to enter these communities and, through his work, became a messenger of their plight with the climate crisis.
After living for months at the time with these remote communities, Santiago learned their ways of life and views of the Earth and the Cosmos and is now ready to share the Tayrona’s wisdom with all of us.
Santiago Roa Duque is a filmmaker and ecology researcher from Colombia. His body of work focuses on environmental, social and cultural matters. In 2020 he founded Jaguar Siembra, a non-profit organization aiming to help native peoples preserve nature, their land and ancient wisdom. He does that by planting trees, creating food forests, and telling the stories of these remote communities to the rest of the world.
