About the Teacher
Why study with them?
Jim Reale has been teaching contemplative practice for 28 years. He continues to compose chant as a form of prayer, inviting the practitioner into the deep silence of contemplation.
He has traveled to India on multiple pilgrimages to study many aspects of yoga, meditation and Vedic chant.
He has taught chant at conferences with Thomas Keating and Richard Rohr. He has lead retreats integrating Eastern practices with Centering Prayer since 2003.
He is featured on the DVD Jesus and Buddha Paths to Awakening with Richard Rohr and James Finley.
Jim taught at the Spiritual Directors International conference in Santa Fe 2014 as the “Ritual Coordinator” teaching Christian, Jewish and Buddhist chant.
He published his first CD, Doorway to Devotion, A Contemplative Entry Into Christian Prayer.
Jim is a Registered Nurse and has worked with hospice patients for most of his healthcare career. He was chosen to receive the 2017 New Mexico Excellence Award, Touch a Life for his work with the dying.
Jim has taken a stand against war and nuclear weapons because of his religious beliefs and has been imprisoned for these acts of nonviolent civil disobedience on numerous occasions.
He traveled to El Salvador in 1992 during the war as a non-violent bodyguard protecting people under death threats.
He joined an international peace keeping mission delivering food and medical supplies to Bosnia in 1993 when the war was in full force.
He co-produced the short documentary film Seeking Shelter, (available online) with Sue Hagedorn and was a producer for the film The Berrigans Devout and Dangerous (theberrigansmovie.com).
