A great teacher
The Deepening the Way retreat has continued to resonate with me. Henry Shukman has a gentle, intelligent manner that, drawing on his books’ clear, inspiring material and a beautifully placed speaking voice, made for a pleasant and thoughtful experience. He didn’t mix with the attendees at all, which was a little disappointing — sort of set him apart and his lessons delivered from on high, an impression I believe he’d hate — but his two assistants more than made up for that detachment. They were generous and superb, highly experienced but respectful of fellow travelers. The all-attendee sits were contextualized well, and those who wanted could use the plentiful personal time for more sitting. I feel more grateful I attended each day.
