Ryan "Hekili" — Founder and Steward
About the Teacher
Why study with them?
Ryan “Hekili” is the Founder and Steward of Hāmākua Sanctuary, where he guides the Hāmākua Initiative through land-based practice, community living, and embodied leadership. His work focuses on restoring relationship—between people, the land, and the deeper rhythms that support clarity and belonging.
Ryan’s background weaves ecological stewardship, emotional intelligence, and contemplative practice. He teaches through participation rather than instruction, inviting residents into shared rhythms of gardening, communal meals, honest dialogue, and reflection. His approach emphasizes nervous system regulation, simplicity, and responsibility as pathways to meaningful change.
Rather than positioning himself as an authority, Ryan cultivates the conditions for insight to arise naturally through lived experience, connection, and care for the land.
