Ayahuasca is a medicinal tea prepared from a combination of plants indigenous to the Amazon rainforest. The ayahuasca experience is ignited by the combination of Banisteriopsis Caapi with another plant the ayahuasceros call Chacruna/Rainha (queen); known in Latin as Psychotria Viridis. Cultural traditions, art forms, and healing ceremonies -- which remain in practice today -- have developed around ayahuasca. Today, these traditions have harmoniously reached into a globalized world through integration with contemporary Western forms of spiritual practice and insight.
Safety precautions: It is very important to make sure that you are choosing a friendly and safe environment or retreat center with a genuine shaman or healer. It is not advisable to drink Ayahuasca alone, under the guidance of someone without experience, or (needless to say!) with someone who might have harmful intentions. Unfortunately, there are people who use Ayahuasca to exploit other people for power, money or sex. And, I almost forgot, don’t expect to enjoy the taste of Ayahuasca -- it is very bitter!
