Portia Hart is the founder and proprietor of Blue Apple Beach, an 11-room boutique hotel and beach club on Tierra Bomba island off the coast of Cartagena, Colombia. She also owns and operates Townhouse, a boutique hotel and rooftop bar in Cartagena and Amare, a vibrant beach club on Tierra Bomba. Proudly half-Trinidadian, half British, Portia was named as one of the top pioneers changing the future of travel by Conde Nast Traveller. After leaving her position as managing director at a yacht marketing company in Monaco, she relocated to Cartagena and opened Blue Apple Beach in 2016. The hotel quickly amassed a loyal following of local Colombians and international travelers alike. At Blue Apple Beach, Portia proudly leads a diverse, predominantly-female and BIPOC management team and focuses on creating dynamic and inclusive programming ranging from DJ sets to LGBTQI+ events – the first mainstream establishment in Cartagena to openly host events of the kind. A standard bearer for the Regenerative Travel movement, Portia founded Green Apple Foundation in 2018, a non-profit organization and the island's first glass-recycling program, which repurposes glass waste into drinking glasses for restaurants and hotels, as well as sand for construction and agriculture. She has created initiatives that positively impact both the environment and the local community in Cartagena, including career opportunities, enrichment classes for local children, coral reef restoration and more. In 2022, Portia launched the Secret Garden Supper Club series, a guest chef dinner series, featuring notable chefs and beverage pros from the US, with proceeds benefiting Green Apple Foundation. in 2023, Portia also launched the Reset & Connect retreat in partnership with holistic health coach, Bianca Dusic, a wellness retreat designed to awaken your inner aliveness through movement, breathwork, hypnotherapy, adventure, exploration and culture.
