About this Retreat
Your Guides
Megan Hunter is a printmaker and artist with over 20 years’ experience practising and teaching printmaking. She holds a Fine Arts degree from Monash University and a Master of Teaching from Deakin University (Australia), and has studied at Il Bisonte in Florence.
Megan has worked as a printmaking technician and educator and was formerly Manager of the Firestation Print Studio in Melbourne before moving to Italy. She has taught printmaking techniques for over two decades and has exhibited in Australia and Europe. Her work is held in both public and private collections.
Deeply passionate about drawing and printmaking, Megan is committed to sharing her knowledge in a way that is generous, supportive, and accessible. Through Ink & Paper Italy, she aims to inspire others to explore the expressive possibilities of printmaking while experiencing the beauty, history, culture, and rhythm of life in Italy.
Details of this retreat
Ink & Paper Italy is a six-night etching and printmaking retreat set in the Umbrian countryside, designed for both complete beginners and artists wishing to deepen or refresh their practice. Small group sizes allow for individual guidance, making the retreat suitable for those new to printmaking as well as those with prior artistic experience. Daily hands-on studio sessions focus on non-toxic intaglio techniques, with all materials provided.
The retreat balances focused creative work with the pleasures of Italian life. Participants enjoy delicious shared meals prepared by on-site chefs using local organic produce, with wine included at dinner, alongside private wine and olive oil tastings. There are excursions to explore nearby lakeside villages, medieval hilltop towns and a dinner by the beautiful shores of Lake Trasimeno.

Day 1 — Welcome to the Villa
Arrive, settle in, meet your group, aperitivo in the limonaia, and a traditional Umbrian dinner.
Day 2 — Inspiration & Orientation
Morning village walk with lake views, studio tour, first sketching + drypoint techniques.
Day 3 — Sketch-eat-Explore
A day out exploring villages, sketching, shopping, sunset aperitivo and dinner by the shores of Trasimeno.
Day 4 — Plate prep-wine tasting
Studio time, copper plate preparation, etching demonstrations. Wine Tasting in a private vineyard.
Day 5 — Olive Oil & Etching
Studio time, continued etching and printing, olive oil tasting, villa dinner.
Day 6 — Final Printing & Celebration
Print final editions, group critique during aperitivo hour, celebratory farewell dinner.
Day 7 — Departure
Breakfast, hugs, transfer to Chiusi Station.

Directions
We offer complimentary transfers from Chiusi–Chianciano Terme station between 15:00 and 17:30 on arrival day, and return transfers to the station on departure morning (checkout is 10:00). The villa is located between Rome and Florence, and both cities are connected by a major rail line. We are happy to assist with navigating your way to Chiusi before you arrive in Italy and we will be in contact with you on your journey from once you land until you arrive at the station in Chiusi.
Accommodation
Guests are accommodated in beautifully appointed rooms within the historic villa, each individually styled with antique furnishings, original artwork, and soft pastel tones. Many rooms feature original ceiling frescoes, generous proportions, and views over the gardens, olive groves, or surrounding countryside. Beds are dressed in antique embroidered Italian linens, and all rooms have private or shared ensuite bathrooms. Several rooms include adjoining sitting areas, terraces, or flexible layouts, offering both comfort and privacy throughout the retreat.

Villa LeMura is a beautifully restored 18th-century Umbrian villa nestled in over four acres of gardens set among rolling hills and ancient olive groves near the medieval village of Panicale. Guests have exclusive use of the entire villa and its grounds, including salons, sitting rooms, a historic chapel, and a scenic in-ground pool with sweeping views of the countryside and hilltop town Panicale. The cantina of the villa has been transformed into a printmaking studio, open access for attendees.
