About this Retreat
James was born in London and first discovered yoga in 2003. However, he truly caught the yoga-bug a few years later, during sunrise practices overlooking the rooftops of Udaipur with an old yogi named Prakash.
Following a martial-arts incurred neck injury, he was told that surgery was the only option. However he resisted and experienced an amazing recovery through his Yoga practice. He soon returned to India to train and embark on his path as a Yoga Teacher.
James French E-RYT has taught over 40 Teacher Trainings, and lives most of the year in Thailand, where he spends his time studying, teaching and running his school pathofyoga.com.
He is well-known for his intelligent sequencing, creativity, good humour and inspirational method of bringing together Traditional Hatha with a holistic, science-based approach to Vinyasa.
His greatest passion is to teach teachers, helping them to evolve their skills find their own authentic voice, whilst recognizing that we are all students and that every day is a school day! So he commits at least a quarter of each year to further study or working on himself. His major influences are Yogrishi Vishvketu, Max Strom, Jason Crandell, Clive Sheridan, Anodea Judith and his Guru, Sri Prem Baba.
He has taught all over the world, but loves to return to Europe once a year, where he teaches Workshops and Courses at some of his favourite studios.
Ian LeMasters is a yogi, massage therapist and acrobat based out of Portland, Oregon. Originally from Texas, he relocated to the PNW in 2015 to further develop his skills as a career Yoga and Acro-yoga teacher. Today, he remains active in the yoga community as an experienced teacher and continued education provider for yoga instruction in anatomy and advanced asana in Portland, Oregon. His classes are heavily influenced by vinyasa and ashtanga-vinyasa yoga styles and he has been fortunate enough to study with amazing teachers such as Jason Crandell, Michele Loew, Doug Kellar and Jani Jaatinen.
In addition to Yoga and Massage Therapy, Ian has also studied hand-balancing under Jean-Luc Martin of the San Diego Circus Center and is the co-founder of IP-Acro’s acro-yoga program. Through IP-Acro along with Paul Hogan, he facilitates a handstand training program and acro-yoga classes for beginner and advanced students.
Emily is inspired by all things Health. She is a naturopathic doctor and has been teaching yoga since 2013. She completed her initial Yoga Teacher Training at The White Lotus Foundation and continued on to take Advanced Teacher Training with Jason Crandell. Her personal practice is inspired by the accessibility of yoga and largely pulls from the Ashtanga tradition and the ancient wisdom of Buddhist & Hindu philosophy.
She has a vinyasa-based teaching style that encourages introspection, mindfulness, and meeting the body with open-hearted presence in each moment. Each class focuses on grounding, strength, compassion, and breath awareness.
Emily lives in the United States. She is originally from Illinois and is now living in Portland, Oregon. She practices naturopathic medicine at her clinic, QC Natural Health, and has a particular focus on the Gut-Brain Connection, Holistic Nutrition, and the Microbiome.
