About this Retreat
Harvey Cottrell believes that human beings are meaning-makers and storytellers—and that, in our most basic nature, we are called to return to this sacred place as co-creators.
Harvey Cottrell is an emerging author, scholar-researcher, and licensed clinical social worker whose work explores forgiveness, trauma, and spiritual reintegration. A trauma specialist (LCSW), Harvey holds a Master of Social Work in Clinical Social Work with Children and Families, as well as a Master’s degree in Child Advocacy and Policy.
He is currently completing a PhD at Saybrook University’s College of Integrative Medicine & Health Sciences, where his research applies an integrative social work framework to the study of forgiveness, trauma, and healing after relational and systemic harm. Alongside his doctoral work, Harvey is a seminarian at The General Theological Seminary, pursuing a Master of Divinity in formation for the priesthood in the Episcopal Church.
A longtime advocate for LGBTQ+ inclusion in Christianity, Harvey has been a leading voice at the intersection of faith, justice, and care for marginalized communities. His advocacy has been recognized with the Human Rights and Social Justice Award from Monmouth University and the Hero Award from Legal Services of New Jersey for his work helping to make families whole again.
Harvey’s writing weaves theology, lived experience, and clinical insight, offering a compassionate and rigorous vision of healing rooted in truth-telling, dignity, and grace.
Details of this retreat
A family inclusive weekend retreat to playfully dance, explore, and play with our ever-changing identities surrounded by friends and family.
* Email laceyh@kirkridge.org if you want to add on Thursday night + additional meals
What does it mean to be queer a quarter of the way into the 21st century? What is it to identify as belonging somewhere on the queer spectrums? How do our ever-changing identities intersect and shape the way we move through our lives? How do we build community that affirms and lifts our identity and supports our needs now as we move through the middle of life? Join us for a weekend to joyfully dance with such questions, and many more, with old friends and new as we consider what it is to be queer and alive in this time. We will open space for the universal energies of renewal, rebirth, and love to come pouring in as we welcome the fire of alchemical transformation of spirit while deconstructing dualism and hierarchy…and giggle as we do.
This special weekend will offer a Thursday evening start for those who wish a longer retreat on Blue Mountain with formal programing running Friday evening through Sunday lunch. This is a family inclusive event, littles are welcome too. Childcare and activities will be provided to allow participants to fully focus on the group sessions as well as finding personal time for reflection. Saturday night will conclude with the traditional “dance” and talent show so bring your fabulous outfits and whatever, if any, talent offerings you wish to contribute. Please, we can only accommodate one tuba flugelhorn duet this year.
