Bolivia, a land of profound mysteries and spiritual heritage, is rich with the ancient prophecies of the Eagle and the Condor.
Exploring the Highest Capital City in the World:
La Paz is the world’s highest administrative capital, perched at an altitude of about 3,650 meters (11,975 feet) above sea level.
It boasts the largest urban cable car network in the world (Mi Teleférico), offering breathtaking views of the city, its vast colorful cemetery, and the majestic surrounding mountains.
The city is renowned for its steep, winding streets filled with vibrant markets, lively plazas, and a blend of Bolivia’s modern and traditional life.
Valley of the Moon (Valle de la Luna):
Just a short drive from La Paz lies this truly otherworldly landscape, featuring eroded rock formations that give the impression of walking on the moon.
Despite its exotic flora, the valley is also home to multicolored hummingbirds and other birds!
Witches' Market (Mercado de las Brujas):
This famous market is a treasure trove of mystical items, including dried llama fetuses for offerings, amulets, and herbs used in the traditional healing and rituals of the Aymara people. It's also a place where you can have your fortune read using coca leaves.
Mount Illimani:
Dominating the skyline, this iconic snow-capped peak is considered sacred and plays a significant role in the local folklore and spiritual life of the residents.
We will admire it from various perspectives and altitudes.
Tiwanaku Ruins:
This ancient archaeological site was once the center of a powerful civilization that possibly existed as far back as 150,000 years ago.
Known for its massive stone structures and enigmatic sculptures, the construction techniques of which cannot be explained by any other means than the influence of other civilizations.
This stunning place proves that the history we learn in school might not be the full story.
Cholitas Wrestling:
A unique cultural phenomenon where women from the Cholitas ethnic group, dressed in traditional, colorful, folkloric outfits, participate in professional wrestling matches that blend entertainment with social empowerment.
Ekeko Figurines:
These small statues of the local god of abundance, often adorned with miniature items like food and money, are believed to bring prosperity and good fortune to their owners.
Plaza Murillo:
The main square of La Paz, surrounded by historic buildings and the Presidential Palace (built in the style of brutalist architecture—yes, this city is a kaleidoscope: from mud huts, remnants of buildings untouched even by the great flood known from the Bible, through colonial architecture, to a modern creation by the former president in the center—let's smile together!).
Nearby is the Legislative Palace, the political heart of Bolivia and witness to many significant, and often controversial, events that resemble soap opera scenarios but actually happened on this very square.
I’ll be happy to spend a few minutes on politics to show you how power manifests in different ways across the world.
Night Walks Through Markets:
Experience the nocturnal life of the city and its traditional culture by participating in guided moonlit walks through the markets, where you can explore local crafts, taste delicious street food, and hear fascinating stories.
These prophecies, deeply rooted in the traditions of Andean and Amazonian cultures, symbolize a significant union between the spiritual world of the South (represented by the Condor) and the material world of the North (represented by the Eagle).
