Retreat Highlights

  • Shri Gaia Institute has been accredited with Yoga Alliance since 2008 for its 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training Programs and since 2011 for its Advanced 300-hour Yoga trainings. Voted the second-best yoga teacher training in the world by Yovada in 2025, this training is directed by the internationally renowned senior yoga teacher and a Yoga Acharya (master of yoga), Tanya Savitri Popovich ERYT-500.
  • This training course is a combination of years of experience, expertise, and thousands of hours of training in various systems concentrated into a 200-hour-long transformational experience. The training will take place over 15 days at Metacom, South Crete, and five days online need to be completed prior to the meeting in Crete.
  • Shri Gaia Institute training is based on traditional classical yoga philosophy while at the same time incorporating the most modern and up-to-date teachings about the body into the physical practice. Carefully crafted teaching methodology that incorporates the biomechanics of the body, therapeutic alignment, and intelligent sequencing ensures a safe, informed, and highly skilled physical practice, infused with the ancient wisdom and philosophy in each movement and each breath.
  • This training’s specialty is teaching classes that deliver the essence of yoga, creating what is called the “Sattvic” effect—a state of being where one is completely calm yet focused and alert. This is achieved by teaching a practice that is rooted in tradition, the way yoga is intended to be, while taking care of the Western body of today and having an individual approach. This 200-hour yoga teacher training program incorporates training hours in the following educational categories and topics.

-Online training
This part of the teacher training is held online. All classes are pre-recorded, which you can participate in from the comfort of your home. The online portion needs to be completed prior to your training in Crete.

-In-person training in Crete
This portion of the training will take place in Paleochora, South Crete, Greece. Crete Island is the biggest and the extreme southern island of Greece. Paleochora is Crete’s gateway to the Libyan Sea. It is one of the most beautiful towns in the prefecture of Chania with extremely good weather where the summer lasts for over five months.

Here, you will feel at home through the kindness and friendliness of the people, you will taste the delicious local cuisine while the beauty of the sea and scenery will literally sweep you away. The picturesque village is located on a small northern peninsula surrounded by two exquisite beaches with sand and pebbles. The distance between Chania and Paleochora is a 75-kilometer drive enriched with the wild beauty that the Cretan scenery has to offer.

Your training venue during the onsite training is an eco-cottage retreat and seminar center located between Paleochora and Anydri village in the south of Crete island. Set in the most beautiful landscape, the venue is only a few minutes away by car (or about 20 minutes of trekking down a canyon) to some of the most pristine beaches and graphic Paleochora village.
