About this Retreat
Csilla has been working with mushrooms for a decade, as a community agroecology researcher, educator, cultivator and in artistic contexts - understanding them as collaborators.
She has 2 years of auto-ethnographic research with fly agaric for self- and community healing and dedicated to the recreation of erased cultures of this important teaching mushroom.
Csilla has also worked as a facilitator in various different contexts, creating transformational space for groups in the intersection of art, movement, theatre, social-ecology and beyond.
Róbert Békefi is a psychologist and artist who is making kin with as many critters and plants and fungi as possible by investigating the impact of their benevolent presence and their cooperative biological functions on our psyche.
As a psychologist he is often encountering the traumatic life events of people. He feels intrigued to re-discover approaches to ease the impacts of diverse traumas in the form of ancient herbal and fungal remedies and rituals.
In the meantime he is cultivating multispecies habitats in the form of his urban garden and his internal microbiome.
Details of this retreat
3-day retreat of Amanita muscaria mushroom-medicine, somatic & nature-based practices in a small group setting.
/ April 17-19, 2026 • Galicia, Spain
✨ Invitation
Fungisense invites you to a somatic sanctuary - guided by the long-forgotten medicine of fly agaric (Amanita muscaria) and supported by somatic and nature-based practices!
These 3 days serve best those who are seeking for gentle release, mental clarity, deep rest and reconnection with their inner rhythms. The carefully structured flow of mushroom-assisted exploration, meditation, somatic movement and conversation practices, forest walks, journaling and the integration circle based on artistic tools offers each participant to shift in-between individual and collective experiencing according to their present needs.
This retreat is dedicated for participants with the openness for self-reflection, the intention of transformation, and the desire for healing. It is not a recreational/psychedelic retreat.
Although the fly agaric is categorized as a toxic mushroom, the mushroom and its substances are not regulated in most countries of the world: you can collect, store, share and use them without control in Spain, the host-country of the retreat as well - similarly to most of the wild herbs.
✨ How can fly agaric guide us?
The fly agaric is one of the most iconic and mythologically rich mushrooms, used for centuries with shamanic guidance and as an everyday companion, mainly across Eurasia. Unlike Psilocybe (and other psychedelic) mushrooms, fly agaric (psychoactive) offers a calm and centered, being-at-home-like state that can enhance introspection, somatic awareness, and sense of self-alignment. When used in micro-to-middle dosage, it can gently dissolve mental rigidity, support nervous system balance, and easily cultivate presence.
During this 3 day process we work with topical and low-to-middle dose ingested fly agaric extracts, prepared to harmlessly access the therapeutic compounds.
Emerging research on Amanita’s therapeutic applications underline:
• the recreation of neuroplasticity as ibotenic acid’s and muscimol’s activity may support nervous system regulation
• emotional release and the elimination of anxiety
• the development of somatic sensitivity
• gaining access to restorative sleep and overcoming insomnia
• transformation of addictive behaviours
Remember, this is not a high-intensity non-ordinary state of consciousness experience, but a gentle healing exploration, ideal for somatic transformation of embodied mental and physical traumas.
✨ About our approach
Our approach is embodied, integrative and decolonial. We combine evidence-based practices with auto-ethnographic research and experiential learning rooted in:
• trauma-informed facilitation, based on safety, consent, and attuned spaceholding
• work with somatic intelligence to engage with the body as a guide for exploring complex dimensions of the self and its surrounding
• relational healing ensured by a container for fluid shifting between individual and collective spaces
• peer-supported integration with 1n1 and small group sharing and witnessing
• non-judgemental approach with focus on resilience and empowerment
• decolonial and eco-social awareness acknowledging Amanita’s erased communities of practice, while centering relevant and respectful use
✨ Practices
Besides the guided one-time middle-dose Amanita experience the supportive practices of this retreat include:
• light fasting
• journaling
• meditation
• somatic movement & conversation exercises
• nature-based experiencing
• integration with artistic tools
• optional cold-water baths
✨ For who is this retreat for?
This retreat is ideal for those who:
• feel stuck in loops (mental-emotional, or behavioral) and wishing for permanent exit
• need nervous system reset through body-based experiences
• are curious about Amanita’s therapeutic properties in a safe and emancipatory setting
• value solitude within community - with sufficient space for individual journeys held by collective presence
• practice (or wish to explore) meditation, somatic practices, and nature connection
• nature lovers & mycophiles, curious about learning and working with fungi
• people interested in ethnobotany and -mycology and a critical and decolonial approach to ancestral knowledge
Anyone with or without experience in body-mind practices is welcome to join!
✨ Who cannot participate?
• pregnant or breastfeeding persons
• people with severe mental health conditions (e.g., psychosis, bipolar disorder)
• anyone seeking a "trippy" or recreational experience
Those on SSRIs, MAOIs, or other psychiatric medications - please first consult your therapist about the interference of ibotenic acid and muscimol and your medication. You can also request consultation with our scientific research referee.

✨Important notes before applying
🍄 We work within a small group (6-8 participants & 2 facilitators) and provide single and double bedrooms and the choice of shifting between individual and collective spaces.
🍄 The retreat takes place with a minimum of 6 participants.
🍄 The language of the retreat is English.
🍄 The building and the retreat is unfortunately not suitable for persons with limited bodily mobility.
🍄 We cook nutritious vegan/vegetarian food, from local, seasonal and self-foraged ingredients. Please provide your dietary needs in the application form. Light fasting will be an integral part of encountering the fly agaric mushroom harmlessly and effectively.
🍄 Amanita muscaria contains psychoactive compounds, which depending on the preparation, dosage and basic mindset of user work as a modulator of wakefulness - can be calming or activating. It can cause severe harm in case of high dosage (eating 15 fresh fruit bodies at a time). During our retreat we will work low-to-middle doses (using ⅕-1 dried specimen/person/occasion), using carefully prepared extracts of self-foraged dried specimens.
🍄 Anybody can take part and ingest the carefully measured and prepared amount of the mushroom extract only after learning the pharmacological properties of the mushroom, understanding all possible effects of low-to-middle dosing and taking full responsibility of their mushroom consumption.
🍄 As part of the preparation process, after your registration you will be invited for a 20 minute 1on1 encountering call.
🍄 The fly agaric mushroom and its substances are not regulated in most countries of the world, you can pick, store, share and use them without control in Spain as well, similarly to most of the wild herbs.
