About the Teacher

Why study with them?

Philip Carlino is the Director of Ecological Stewardship at St. Raphaela Center, where for five years he has worked to bring the property's eleven acres to fuller life: converting lawn to native woodland, removing invasive species, and tending the land as a concrete act of reparation. His work joins ecological restoration to the Handmaids' charism, treating the healing of wounded land as a spiritual practice rooted in Laudato Si' and open to anyone. He develops and leads the Center's Care for Creation as Reparation initiative, and finds in the slow work of planting and tending a way of paying attention to where God is already at work in creation.
