Why study with them?

Master Wanxing was born in June 1971 in Suizhou, Hubei province. He became a devout Buddhist at the age of 15. Three years later, he became a renunciant at Nanputuo Monastery, Xiamen. At age 21, he was fully ordained in Meifeng Monastery, Putian and graduated with a four-year associate degree in Buddhism. Thereafter, he went through three solitary retreats lasting for a total of seven years. By age 29, he had realized the meaning of life’s primordial essence. At age 30, he embarked on the restoration project of Donghua Chan Monastery. Over the next twenty years, he initiated and completed a series of development projects to rebuild and expand the monastery.



Master Wanxing founded the Donghua lineage tradition, which is practiced by both the Sangha and lay followers in the monastery. He leads by example and has been teaching the Dharma in ways that are most suitable to people of the modern age. To date, he has conducted over 10,000 lectures and published 13 books in multiple languages. The collection of the six books on the “five minds and one moon” are his most representative works, summarizing his thirty years of personal experiences in practicing the Dharma and rebuilding the monastery. he devotes himself to teaching practitioners the path to liberation. The path serves as the basis for a “people-oriented Buddhism,” which he calls “Donghua Chan.”
