About this Retreat
Bobbi Block co-founded Space Camp with Anya Rose in 2021 and is Space Camp Director. She specializes in bringing people together for communal creative experiences.
Bobbi has taught, directed and performed Improvisational Theater for 30 years. She is an Adjunct Professor in the Theater Department at Temple University and Drexel University, in Philadelphia. Bobbi has taught her signature ‘Actors’ Improv’ workshops around the globe.
Bobbi works in corporate and nonprofit sectors as a Learning & Development Facilitator and Coach. She is a practitioner of Applied Improvisation -- the principles of improvisational theater inform her training approach.
Recently Bobbi co-founded Yes and Nature Collaborative to help people speak confidently about environmental issues.
Bobbi founded and is the Producing Artistic Director of critically-acclaimed theater company, Tongue & Groove Spontaneous Theater. In addition, she co-founded and performs with ComedySportz Philadelphia. Bobbi plays drums in the Afro-Brazilian percussion bands Unidos da Filadelfia, and Batala.
Mike Stevens has been studying samba percussion for almost 30 years and has traveled to Brasil numerous times to study with groups in Rio and Salvador. He was the former director of Phillybloco, and currently directs BlocoFunk. Mike teaches samba for Unidos da Filadelfia, and at the University of Pennsylvania. Mike’s relaxed, friendly, and energetic vibe combined with his expertise in differentiating for various levels of drummers make for a class where you’ll feel both welcomed and challenged.
Anya co-founded Space Camp with Bobbi Block and is currently an instructor at the camp. She has been a science and nature instructor in various forms for 20 years. After earning her M.S. in Ecology and Environmental Science from UMaine and her MAT in STEM Education from Tufts, she became the lower school science teacher at SCH Academy in Philadelphia, where worked for ten years. Anya is also the co-founder of the band, Ants on a Log, playing original music for children and other childlike people. In addition, Anya works in mixed media visual arts.
Amy has a BFA from Syracuse University’s School for Visual and Performing Arts, studying studio arts, ceramics, and special education. She also has a Master's in Special Education from Widener University. Amy teaches pottery classes to adults with physical and cognitive disabilities since retiring as a special education teacher and as a supervisor of a day program for special needs adults. Her current work utilizes a multidisciplinary approach producing nature inspired clay vessels and, most recently, acrylic abstract paintings on canvas and clay. The beauty of nature’s colors and organic forms as well as music are Amy's inspiration, focusing on textures on the clay surface as well as on a 2-D canvas. https://www.amyblockstudioarts.com

What happens at Space Camp?
Every day we offer professionally-led workshops appropriate for novices to experts in visual art, improv theater, and Brazilian drumming. 2026 workshops include woven fiber art, mixed media collage, singing, and more!
And we also have campfires, s’mores, a talent show, game night, karaoke and more! Plus, every day there's plenty of free time to relax, read, write, practice, collaborate with a new creative partner, take a nature walk, explore the library, or take a hammock nap!
"All the summer fun you wish you had as an adult!
Plus awesome people, opportunities to be creative, and an inspiring campus."
"It's a very bonding experience getting together with other creative people and doing creative things in a no-pressure environment away from goals and agendas."
"I LOVED everything we did"
Judgement-Free Zone.
The vibe at Space Camp is totally loose: you can attend whatever sessions appeal to you or not. You can leave in the middle of a session if you're not into it, or come late. No judgement, no pressure! Space Camp is all about providing space for you to do and enjoy what you want!
"I liked the structure of each day - plenty to choose from, and the option to not choose anything!"
Open Space.
After a few days together we create an 'Open Space' session in which you - the campers - are invited to offer your own session in a structured format. It could be any creative exploration you’d like to share/teach, or just an offer to 'read while sitting near each other'! No obligation to make an offering, of course.
"I honestly think Open Space was one of the coolest parts of Space Camp! It was awesome to be able to offer ideas in the moment, join others in creating different things, and spend the time according to how you want to flow. The freedom, flexibility, and inspiration felt was a great way to end our time together."
Fellow Campers.
Space Camp attracts people of all ages, from 30's to 70's, with a majority of folks in the middle of that range.
