About the Teacher

Why study with them?

Hi! I'm Sebastian, I'm 25 years old and I'm from Cali. Cali is known to be the birth city of salsa, not just in Colombia but in Latin America. Why? Because we grow up with salsa.

From dancing salsa on the street, to dancing at family gatherings or in local clubs. In Cali, salsa is everywhere. Even getting into a taxi our a grocery store, you can't escape the sounds of pachanga. So becoming a dancer, was just inevitable.

The first time I remember seeing a professional dancer, I was 12 years old. My cousin is a dancer too and around that time she founded a dance school. From that moment, I completely fell in love with dance. It means so much more than just moving on the rhythm.

My first class, I started with the very basics, "the repique", which is incredibly fundamental for salsa dancing. I even remember the song I was dancing in, it's called Oh Mayi by Ricky Campelli. Now, 13 years later, I try to transfer the feeling I had during my first class during every class I teach. I want people to feel the happiness and passion I feel when I did my first repique.

I love all salsa, but the one I did lose my heart the most to, is my dear salsa caleño. It's so energetic, none other style can give you that boost the way a bugalo, pachanga, mambo or a chachacha does. It is incredible how much variety salsa caleño has to offer within just one style. Creating my own combinations and sharing that energy with someone on the dancefloor, is what brings me the most joy in the world.
