Great Ayahuasca Retreat at Nihue Rao
I had a meaningful experience at Nihue Rao. Most importantly, I felt very safe in general and especially in my most vulnerable moments. The facilitators (who spoke several languages) and the local people were very friendly. It was nice to meet random nice people participating in the retreat, as well. The songs of the maestros during the ceremony were both soothing and otherworldly. The experience itself was very meaningful the first time and less so the next two times (mainly because I lacked sleep and the medicine compounded this problem). While there was an integration session the next day after each ceremony, it generally consisted of discussing one’s intentions. However, in one of the days there was additional sharing of one’s experience and thoughts and that was cathartic, as it lead to a lot of opening up by all those present. It was in fact the best therapy session in my life. The food diet - while (because) lacking salt and sauces and therefore taste - was a great experience for my stomach and general wellbeing. The sleeping conditions had both good and bad parts. I liked that there was little actually separating me from the world outside. It was nice to be surrounded by jungle sounds at night, but when you have (induced) insomnia, they can become annoying. No insect problems other than the occasional mosquito bites. One thing I didn’t like was that the sleeping sheets and pillows smelled bad (humidity/transpiration). Overall, I am glad to have had this experience, which felt authentic and was certainly meaningful. I definitely recommend the place.
