About this Retreat

Your Guides

Details of this retreat

Our 10-day Master Plant Dieta takes place near Shamboyacu in the Peruvian Amazon. Maestro Don Gino Chaka Runa introduces you to the Master Plants and helps you choose a plant or blend for your daily tea. Five Ayahuasca ceremonies accompany this work, guided by Don Gino in the Mestizo tradition.

**The Dieta and its ceremonies**

Each day, you drink one litre of your chosen Master Plant tea, eat simple Dieta meals and have time to yourself. On a guided plant walk, you can see Ayahuasca, Chacruna and Chagropanga growing in our garden. On a separate day, you can join the team in preparing the ceremonial brew.

The Dieta opens with an individual floral bath. On ceremony nights, we gather in the maloca, our round ceremonial house. Don Gino sings Icaros, traditional ceremonial songs, in Shipibo, Quechua and Spanish. The program also includes a personal Arkana, a traditional protection ritual. After each ceremony, we meet in a sharing circle where you can speak about your experience or listen to others.

**Your stay in the rainforest**

You stay in a private tambo, a wooden forest cabin, or a furnished glamping tent. Both have a private bathroom. The retreat center sits within 44 hectares of rainforest, with three creeks and ten waterfalls. Between ceremonies, you can follow the forest trails, swim in the pools beneath several of the falls or spend a quiet afternoon on your porch.

**Guidance and support**

We conduct the program in English. Don Gino also speaks Spanish and Italian, so you can ask him questions directly. Before you arrive, our team reviews your health questionnaire and helps you prepare. During the Dieta, experienced assistants are present at each ceremony, and a doctor is on site at the retreat center.

Schedule

On selected mornings, join Maestro Don Gino for gentle movement, including Chi Kung, Opening the Body and Awakening the Warrior.
On two mornings during the Dieta, an optional Kambo ceremony is available as a paid add-on.
Breakfast is the first of two freshly prepared Dieta meals each day.
Throughout the day, drink the Master Plant tea you chose with Don Gino.
After each Ayahuasca ceremony, the group meets for a sharing circle, with time to speak about your experience and listen to others.
Lunch is the second meal of the day. Between activities, you have quiet time to rest in your tambo or glamping tent, write in your journal or walk to a waterfall.
On one day, explore the medicinal plant garden on a guided walk. On another, you can help prepare the Ayahuasca brew.
On selected non-ceremony days, join a visionary painting class or learn medicine songs on the charango, guitar or flute.
During the Dieta, Don Gino also leads a shamanic drumming circle.
Every other evening, gather in the maloca for an Ayahuasca ceremony with Don Gino. There are five ceremonies during the Dieta.
On the evenings between ceremonies, you have time to yourself and can turn in early.

Directions

The nearest international airport is Lima Jorge Chávez International Airport (LIM). From Lima, you will take a short domestic flight (1 hour) to Tarapoto Airport (TPP), which is the closest airport to our Ecovillage.

Once you arrive in Tarapoto, our team will meet the group on the first day of your program for breakfast at the designated meeting point, and then accompany you to the Ecovillage. The drive from Tarapoto to Lejía/Shamboyacu (San Martín) takes approximately 3–4 hours through the beautiful Amazonian landscape.

Guests only need to book their flight to Lima and Tarapoto and a hotel in Tarapoto for the night before the retreat. All transportation between Tarapoto and the Healing Center is included and organized by our team.

Accommodation

During your Master Plant Dieta in the Peruvian Amazon, you can stay in a private tambo or a furnished glamping tent. A tambo is a traditional wooden forest cabin with fine mosquito netting in place of solid walls. You can rest in the hammock, feel the air move through the cabin and hear the forest around you. The waterproof glamping tents have wide openings that look out onto the rainforest and a private deck with a table and chair. Both options sit on raised wooden platforms. Each has a private bathroom with running water, a flush toilet, a wooden sink and an open shower with solar-heated water. The center uses local materials in the accommodation and a biodigester to treat wastewater. Your accommodation comes with a made-up bed, towels, a wooden bedside table, shelves, a large drinking water dispenser and a rechargeable light. There is no cell service or internet at the center. Electricity is available in the maloca, our ceremonial house, and we recommend bringing a power bank. Between ceremonies, your cabin or tent gives you a private place to rest, write in your journal or simply listen to the forest. This simplicity is part of the Dieta and the time you spend with Pachamama, Mother Earth.
