About this Retreat
After nearly two decades of study, practice, and running personal retreats in Ayurveda, herbalism, energy medicine, yoga, water therapy, and countless other practices, I have realized that the greatest medicine is not a ceremony—it is simply living well. I have built this sanctuary for those who need to remember how to be human again.
When I arrived in Northern Spain, I began again from scratch. This time, I bought an old farmhouse connected to spring water tucked into abundant nature where I could finally live sustainably and reclaim the sacred rituals that the modern world has discarded. Here, ceremony is not a performance and retreats are courageous times of being with what arises within.
Before I moved to the mountains, I had many titles and founded a safe space called The Tree, but after a chapter of service in the West, I felt the call to release that form of being, organization, and image. I literally left everything and everything fell apart for me to come here - to come back to the roots - a sustainable process of living. I want people to have the opportunity and time to discover or live their own truth, not a truth passed from someone else. Breaking free from the current paradigm of spiritual retreats and courses, Casa Apapacho was born.
I have created my sanctuary and welcome you to step back in time, to connect with the land, and to discover, connect, or express yourself on your own terms. It is imperfect and raw, just like we are. Whether you are here for an artist residency or a spiritual hermitage, there are no workshops or groups, no timings, and no set meals.
There is no schedule. There are no expectations. You are invited to inhabit the space, to paint, to walk, and to rest.
I will be tending my plants and my art. You will be tending yourself. In the shared silence of this house, we find the restoration that no "organized retreat" can provide. The time is entirely yours to do whatever you want. I am not here to be your teacher. I am just here tending to the land, painting, foraging and making natural medicine and cosmetics, living with the seasons, and sharing the space as a fellow human.
Details of this retreat
In an age of constant connectivity, silence is the ultimate rebellion. Trade the digital noise for the raw stillness of a 130-year-old mountain hermitage. This is a bespoke, one-on-one retreat where the level of silence is dictated by you ranging from a strict Vipassana-style immersion to a simple offline reset. No forced schedules, no "wellness" fluff, just the mountains, the slowness, and the presence of a facilitator well-versed in the depths of silence. Reclaim your sovereignty and return to your own Presence.
Note on the 2026 Solar Eclipse: On August 12th, 2026, the house sits at "Zero Point" for the total solar eclipse. This is a rare, high-intensity window for those seeking a profound shift.
(Note: Minimum 8-day booking required for the eclipse period).
The 3 Gardens and Spring Water:
There are also three gardens (one for food, a small one next to the house with flowers, and one further up the mountain which offers total privacy, great views, and fruit trees. They are all organic. All the water comes directly from a mountain spring and is filtered through a Phoenix water filter.
The Art Studio and Home Office:
The house is the studio. You are welcome to use your room or the studio to work on your art. An adjustable standing desk can be put in your room by request. Since the house is at the beginning stages of renovation there is currently more flexibility regarding how to use and work with the space in and around the house for art. Currently, we do not offer art materials with the exception of paintbrushes. You are welcome to use the office. There is a large monitor, HDMI cable, printer, web camera, and printer.
Home Trails and the Natural Environment:
There are 6-8 trails accessible directly from the house that lead up and around the mountain, offering various lengths and difficulty levels. These trails are typically empty, providing a quiet space to be by yourself. This is the side of a mountain. It is steep, can be muddy, and best with proper boots, a hat, and a walking stick. It’s a place for those who find beauty in the raw, natural world. With numerous home trails and longer higher hikes in the area, this is a paradise for hikers or those who enjoy the process and teachings of mountain and forest wisdom. There are wild animals in the area but are seldom seen during the day.
Home Animals:
The house is also home to a puppy (Elio) and three cats (Zuzu, Rooney, and Bibi). You’ll likely find their company to be a grounding presence during your stay. They are warm, affectionate, and good with people. You are welcome to take Elio on hikes, sometimes Rooney joins too.
Shared Responsibility:
Besides your private room, the rest of the house is shared. Please leave them as you found them, dishes washed, and spaces tidied. We both contribute to keeping the home a peaceful environment.
The Practice of the Physical:
There is a spiritual quality to the basic chores here. Whether it is chopping wood for the stove, carrying water, or pulling weeds in the garden, these actions become the practice. You are more than welcome to join me in these daily activities if you feel called to learn or participate, whether that is tending the garden or chopping wood but there is absolutely no pressure to do so.
Crooked & Artsy:
This is a traditional Spanish mountain home as well as an artist studio and a spiritual hermitage. It is eccentric and encourages authenticity. The floors aren't level, the wood can creak, and the walls are thin. It is authentic and charming, but it is not soundproof. A home full of hand made things, colors and textures. The house has personality and also is in a process of change. Also, there will be no major renovations while retreats are being held.
Social Flow & Food:
You are always welcome to join me on walks with Elio or take Elio out with you. We might cook or eat together if it feels right, but there is no requirement to do so or even socialize. You are encouraged to go at your own pace, and I will do the same.
