About this Retreat
After two decades traveling the world and teaching meditation, herbalism, and the traditional arts of Ayurveda, yoga, energy medicine, etc, I settled into these mountains to restore a house forgotten by time. This "monk-witch" life is my reality: a solitary rhythm of prayer with the land, the slow process of restoration, and art as my expression.
Before moving to Northern Spain, I founded a safe space called "The Tree." But after years of service, I felt the calling to release the titles, the organization, and the image. I chose instead a life reclaimed from modern noise, tending the soil and making natural medicines.
My way of being is non-traditional and colorful, rooted in the simplicity. I am not here to be your teacher. I am here as a fellow human, living with the seasons and sharing a moment of time with you. If you wish to share in this pace, you are welcome.
Details of this retreat
The loudest thing you will hear is your own presence. This is a private, one-on-one container built for the deep work of returning to yourself within a raw mountain landscape and a 130-year-old artistic Spanish house. At Casa Apacho, discretion and personal autonomy are the guiding principles. A true reset cannot be scheduled; it must be allowed.
In an age of constant connectivity, analog living is the ultimate rebellion. By trading digital noise for the stillness of a mountain hermitage, I strip away the non-essentials of 2026 to reveal the basic rhythms underneath. Operating entirely off-grid with mountain spring water and organic gardens, this experience is built entirely around your specific needs. The depth of the retreat is dictated by you, ranging from a strict, deep-immersion silent retreat to a restorative digital detox.
As a facilitator well-versed in silence techniques and the process of shifting into an analog state, I act as a steady anchor to support that transition. There are no forced schedules or wellness trends here; instead, I hold space for the basic rhythms of rest, food, movement, expression, and connection. You have the freedom to move at your own natural pace as you return to the stillness of the mountains and the clarity of your own presence.
Ready to Untangle?
If you have questions about the retreat, the terrain, or the logistics of the hermitage, I’m happy to chat. The length of stay depends entirely on the person and your personal needs.
Note on the 2026 Solar Eclipse: On August 12th, 2026, the house sits at "Zero Point" for the total solar eclipse. This is a rare, high-intensity window for those seeking a profound shift.
(Note: Minimum 8-day booking required for the eclipse period).
This retreat offers full access to the Living Apothecary and Seasonal Garden—handcrafted medicines and harvests available only to those staying here.
The Natural Apothecary & Detox
To support your physical reset and mental clarity, I provide:
Detox & Ritual: Pure Castor Oil and packs for liver/body support, Epsom salts for restorative baths, and a curated selection of essential oils.
Handcrafted Medicines: Tinctures, tonics, and herbal preparations made directly from our soil. Also Mexican Cacao for heart-opening nourishment.
The Grounding Kit: Take home the homemade Presence Mist, Pain Balm, and Immunity Tincture to support your focus and resilience.
Superfoods: Access to an extensive list of superfoods and local botanical extracts.
The Living Garden
You are invited to harvest directly from the earth. While there is year-round staples like salad greens, kale, carrots, beets, and herbs, seasonal plantings this year include:
Vegetables: Cauliflower, broccoli, beans, red cabbage, Brussels sprouts, tomatoes, onions, leeks, sweet potatoes, taro, cucumbers, eggplant, garlic, potatoes, peas, celery, peppers, and spinach.
Fruits & Berries: Apples, plums, grapes, blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, and melons.
And more: Diverse flowers, medicinal herbs, turmeric, and pumpkins.
Food Preservation: I honor the land’s cycle by dehydrating, pickling, canning, and freezing the harvest. In the pantry, you will find marmalades, ferments, and dried mushrooms. In autumn, I forage for fresh mushrooms.
Cooking & Nourishment
I believe "less is more." My cooking is basic, seasonal, and rooted in health—avoiding complex combinations to keep your system clear and grounded.
Freedom & Flexibility: Nourishment is a personal journey. You are welcome to help me cook, cook for yourself, or eat what I make. There is no pressure to eat together or at a specific time.
Staples Included: The pantry is well-stocked with fresh eggs, flours, homemade ghee, grains, pasta, legumes, and basic cheeses. For protein, there is local Spanish delicacies like Jamón, Chorizo, Lomo, and Cecina.
A Sample Day:
Breakfast: Overnight oats with fruits/nuts and a daily protein smoothie with superfoods like Maca and Moringa.
Lunch: A large seasonal garden salad served with local bread, cheeses, and meats.
Dinner: A seasonal soup and quiche, a cauliflower steak, or confit de canard.
From the Cookbook: You may also find me making Indian Daal, wild garlic pesto with cumin rice, bone broth, steamed mussels, or Southern fried chicken. For a sweet touch: cardamon rice pudding or molten lava brownies.
Always on the Stove: A "living" pot of herbal infusions, golden milk, or warming cacao is available. I also love to bake; there is usually fresh banana bread or New York-style cheesecake to snack on.
Dietary Respect & Fasting: If you are vegetarian, please let me know; I will refrain from cooking meat during your stay. If you require higher protein density or are interested in fasting, please speak with me before booking.
Clean as You Go: To keep the energy of this shared space clear, please clean your dishes and prep areas immediately after use.
The 3 Gardens and Spring Water:
There are also three gardens (one for food, a small one next to the house with flowers, and one further up the mountain which offers total privacy, great views, and fruit trees). They are all organic. All the water comes directly from a mountain spring and is filtered through a Phoenix water filter.
The Art Studio and Home Office:
The house has both an art studio and a home office. In the office there is a large monitor, HDMI cable, printer, web camera, and printer. You are welcome to use your room or the studio to work on your art. Since the house is at the beginning stages of renovation, there is currently more flexibility regarding how to use and work with the space in and around the house for art. Currently, we do not offer art materials with the exception of paintbrushes.
Home Trails and the Natural Environment:
There are 6-8 trails accessible directly from the house that lead up and around the mountain, offering various lengths and difficulty levels. It’s a place for those who find beauty in the raw, natural world. This is a paradise for hikers or those who enjoy the process and teachings of mountain and forest wisdom. There are wild animals in the area but are seldom seen during the day.
Home Animals:
The house is also home to a puppy (Elio) and three cats (Zuzu, Rooney, and Bibi). You’ll likely find their company to be a grounding presence during your stay. They are warm, affectionate, and good with people. You are welcome to take Elio on hikes, sometimes Rooney joins too.
Shared Responsibility:
Besides your private room, the rest of the house is shared. Please leave them as you found them, dishes washed, and spaces tidied. We both contribute to keeping the home a peaceful environment.
The Practice of the Physical:
There is a spiritual quality to the basic chores here. Whether it is chopping wood for the stove, carrying water, or pulling weeds in the garden, these actions become the practice. You are more than welcome to join me in these daily activities if you feel called to learn or participate, whether that is tending the garden or chopping wood but there is absolutely no pressure to do so. This is a space for slow living, where you have the freedom to do as much or as little as you want.
Crooked & Artsy:
This is a traditional Spanish mountain home as well as an artist studio and a spiritual hermitage. It is eccentric and encourages authenticity. The floors aren’t level, the wood can creak, and the walls are thin. It is authentic and charming, but it is not soundproof. A home full of handmade things, colors, and textures. The house has personality and also is in a process of change. Also, there will be no major renovations while retreats are being held.
