Metta, Malas & Mindfulness
There are few experiences more powerful than sitting in a room where people are intentionally cultivating love and goodwill together. As the weekend unfolds, the habits of judging, comparing, fixing, striving, and defending begin to loosen their grip. What gradually emerges is a way of being rooted in genuine kindness toward yourself, the people around you, and eventually all living beings.
Imagine waking up without feeling like you need to improve yourself. Imagine looking at another person and, for a moment, wanting nothing from them except their happiness. As the weekend unfolds, something often begins to shift—not because you’ve forced yourself to think differently, but because you’ve spent three days practicing a different way of relating to yourself and the world.
Metta, often translated as loving-kindness, is one of the oldest meditation practices in the Buddhist tradition. It is not simply positive thinking or repeating pleasant phrases. It is a disciplined practice of intentionally cultivating unconditional goodwill until it becomes something you can genuinely feel. Modern neuroscience suggests that repeatedly generating these emotional states can strengthen neural pathways associated with empathy, emotional regulation, and well-being. The experience itself, however, often feels even more profound—many people leave feeling lighter, more connected, more open-hearted, and more deeply at peace.
Throughout the weekend, we’ll immerse ourselves completely in Metta. Each day includes several traditional Metta meditation sessions, mindful movement, nourishing vegetarian meals, quiet reflection, and spacious time beside the Blanco River. Rather than sampling many different meditation techniques, we’ll devote ourselves to one timeless practice. Like polishing a stone in a river, each session builds upon the last until loving-kindness begins to feel less like something you’re doing and more like the place you’re living from.
On Saturday afternoon we’ll gather to handcraft a traditional or crocheted meditation mala. As each bead is strung with care and attention, the mala gradually becomes more than an object—it becomes a companion for practice. Once completed, we’ll dedicate the malas together beside the Blanco River and begin using them during the remaining Metta meditation sessions, allowing the intention you’ve cultivated throughout the weekend to become woven into something you can carry home.
The retreat is intentionally spacious because kindness cannot be rushed. Between sessions you may wander the trails, sit beneath the towering cypress trees, rest in a hammock, journal, watch the river flow from the dock or the dam, spend time with our miniature goats and giant Flemish rabbits, or simply do nothing at all. The spaciousness between sessions is not a break from the practice—it is where the practice practices you.
No previous meditation experience is necessary—only a willingness to sincerely lean into loving-kindness. You won’t leave with dozens of new meditation techniques. You’ll leave having spent three days immersed in one of the most transformative qualities of the human heart. For many people, the memory of what it feels like to live inside loving-kindness lingers long after the retreat has ended, becoming something they return to again and again.

Kundalini Reset
Kundalini is a practice I began more than two decades ago, and after a break, it was time to come back to it. Kelly’s class has been exactly what I needed—so deeply supportive; each class perfect for the moment, “right practice at the right time.”
Thank you, Zoetics, for bringing Kundalini back to the valley. I’m really grateful to be able to return to this practice in such a meaningful way.

Thank you
My 3-day silent retreat at Zoetic River was one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences I've ever had. There were moments of discomfort where I desperately missed my phone and the distractions that usually help me avoid sitting with difficult thoughts. But that's exactly where the growth happened.

The team at Zoetic River thought of absolutely everything. Every detail was intentional, my accommodations were beautiful and comfortable, the food was nourishing, and I never felt like I was missing anything. They made the discomfort of silence as comfortable and supported as it could possibly be.

I left feeling rejuvenated, deeply rested, incredibly grateful, and, at times, even euphoric. The experience gave me space to reconnect with myself in a way I didn't realize I needed. If you're willing to lean into the discomfort, the rewards are immeasurable.

I will absolutely be back. Thank you to everyone at Zoetic River for creating such a thoughtful, healing, and unforgettable experience.
