Troy

Troy Valencia is the co-founder of Root & Wisdom, along with his partner and wife Joaly. He is a modern-day Indigenous scholar-practitioner and respected teacher in the fields of Soteriology and Spirituality. Deeply rooted in his paternal Central African heritage, Troy is a twice-initiated member of the Bwiti tradition and a sacred medicine carrier of Iboga. Overcoming the challenges of being raised in the foster care system, he earned a collegiate basketball scholarship, majored in Biology and Chemistry, and furthered his education with a graduate degree in Analytical Chemistry. His deep passion for the human experience led him to attain a second Master’s in East-West Psychology from the California Institute of Integral Studies. He is currently pursuing a Doctorate in Clinical Psychology (PsyD). Troy has a unique gift for connecting complex scientific principles with profound spiritual truths, drawing from his deep understanding of Eastern and Indigenous wisdom traditions. He sees Iboga not just as a psychedelic or plant medicine but as a Spiritual Technology that provides a bridge between the physical/emotional and spiritual realms. Rather than merely seeking healing, Troy guides others towards lasting liberation from suffering. In addition to his work in spirituality, Troy has self-produced two internationally recognized albums, Sounds of Medicine and Planetary Attunement, available on all streaming platforms. Jo

Joaly Trinidad, affectionately known as Jo, is a co-founder of Root & Wisdom and founder of Artesana Healing with a rich educational background and deep ancestral roots. Holding an undergraduate degree in Psychology and Media and a Master’s degree in Counseling from NYU, Jo integrates modern academia with the indigenous practices of her Taino lineage. As the great-granddaughter of native touch healers, she blends ancient wisdom with contemporary, research-based methods. Certified as a somatic breathworker, vibrational entrainment healer, yoga instructor, and Kambo provider, Jo brings over four years of experience as a lead facilitator in Iboga ceremonies. Her Afro-Caribbean heritage, rooted in West/Central Africa, fuels her deep connection to Iboga and her commitment to its service. As a Bwiti initiate into the Mabundi Missoko lineage, Jo dedicates her life to preserving indigenous wisdom traditions and fostering empowerment through her non-profit organization Sacred Roots Foundation, dedicated ensuring these practices thrive for generations to come.

Kosu Boudreau

Kosu is a trauma psychotherapist and integration specialist with a private practice in Ontario, Canada. She spent over 18 years as a spiritual care therapist in hospitals, supporting people through trauma, mental health and addiction challenges, and palliative care. She now offers trauma-informed facilitation along with preparation and integration support for Beckley Retreats guests. She holds graduate degrees in psychotherapy, social work, and theology, and is also a certified yoga teacher, an ordained Buddhist chaplain, and a student of Movement Medicine. In 2020, she completed the psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy program at the Integrative Psychiatry Institute (IPI) and has extensive training in experiential, psychodynamic, existential, and somatic therapies. People often describe her as warm, grounded, and carrying a lively sense of humor.

Kosu believes deeply that “the truth can set you free.” Before working with psychedelics, she experienced awakening through meditation and embodied movement practices. At 54, she returned to school to complete a Master of Social Work, motivated by a desire to focus on social change. After discovering the transformative power of plant medicine, she chose to dedicate her life to this path — easing suffering, supporting personal transformation, and contributing to collective liberation.

Life Changing Experience

I cannot say enough about my experience at Root & Wisdom. I'm 53 years old and have only just begun my spiritual awakening, which started with a calling to Ayahuasca. Following this incredible experience, I found Root & Wisdom and felt immediately drawn to Iboga and specifically, Root & Wisdom. After much research, I attended their retreat in January of 2026. From the moment I stepped off of the shuttle from the airport, I was blown away by the beauty of the location and the sincere welcome received by Troy, Joaly and the rest of the R&W facilitators. Every moment, from arrival to departure, felt purpose-built and fit perfectly with the experience. The Costa Rican staff were second to none and provided over-the-top care to all guests. We were routinely told by each facilitator: "If there is anything we can do for you, please don't hesitate to ask." The ceremonies were held using traditional Bwiti tradition (with explanation) as well as down-to-earth storytelling and insightful teachings by Troy that made us all feel our intentions clearly and like we were part of "something". Following the ceremonies, great care is taken by the facilitators to ensure proper stillness and integration in the days following. The additional retreat inclusions, such as the spiritual shower, meditations, yoga, sound healing and waterfall excursion were so perfectly timed/executed and they each enhanced the experience exponentially. I encourage anyone thinking about working with Iboga to give Root & Wisdom their full consideration as I cannot imagine having a better first (or next) Iboga experience. The wisdom gained during this experience, especially as someone just coming to know the spiritual world, will be with me for the rest of my life. I'm so thankful to Troy, Joaly, Ryan, Steph, Mountain, Brayan, Zaida and all of the Costa Rican staff for a once in a lifetime experience.

Transform Your Life

This retreat will transform your life for so many reasons. The staff, the food and the grounds make you feel connected to the universe before you ever take the medicine. The ceremonies were done with reverence and respect. I came for one issue but my eyes were opened to so much more. My brain has been defragged. My body regenerated and my heart has been opened. This was a once in a lifetime experience.
